Showing: Stohead – “Now” @ Galerie Lefeuvre

German artist Stohead is currently having a solo show at Galerie Lefeuvre in Paris, showing for the second time in their space. Titled Now, the show features 14 colorful, large size canvases in which he mixes his signature tagging and calligraphy elements with abstract smoke elements. Slightly different than some of his previous paintings that are mostly focused on letters, this body of work feels like a step forward for the Berlin-based artist. While we’ve seen him use these other dynamic elements in some of […]

Previews: Judith Supine – “Golden Child” @ Mecka Gallery (New York)

A year and a half since his last solo show in NYC (covered), Judith Supine will be opening a new solo show in his hometown on the 29th of March. Golden Child is a part show / part installation that will be presented at Mecka Gallery‘s big warehouse space. Known for his collages and cutouts, Supine’s works balance between provocative, abstract, psychedelic and surreal, and are often highlighted with bright pink or neon green details. By reusing images he finds in trashed magazines, he not only creates […]

Showing: Adam Friedman – ‘Esoterica’ @ One Grand Gallery

One Grand Gallery in Portland is currently exhibiting Adam Friedman’s latest body of work Esoterica. The PDX-based artist has compiled a series of paintings and sculptural elements housed within the muraled space reflecting his recognisable yet inexplicable geological landscape based subject matter. Friedman’s contemporary take on landscape painting uses acrylic to present natural elements within isolated environments. His use of dimension and volume is dynamic. The angular forms evident in his paintings create a series of strata that bisect the layered image. Environments are presented within curiosity […]

Upcoming: Mark Ryden – “The Gay 90s: West” @ Kohn Gallery

Fans of Mark Ryden on the West Coast have been anxiously awaiting the postponed solo that they have been anticipating since the Los Angeles-based artist’s showing in New York in 2010 (covered). The Gay 90s: West is now slated to open on May 3rd and will be the inaugural show for Kohn Gallery’s new 12,000-square foot space (1227 N. Highland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90038 ) in Hollywood. The exhibition will include new paintings, works on paper, installation, and sculpture exploring the idealized 1890′s in America, with Ryden’s surreal touch of course, […]

Previews: Charlie Immer – “Loose Juice” @ La Luz de Jesus

On April 4th, La Luz de Jesus will be presenting new lush and colorful works from Charlie Immer. Entitled Loose Juice, the new paintings from the West Maryland-based painter appear cute at first, but closer examination reveals darker and more unsettling imagery. Immer explains the new body of work for his first solo at the Los Angeles gallery below: “With this body of work I introduced new flavors, structures, and textures to the undulating and quivering landscape. The structure of the pieces was heavily inspired by the […]

Interviews: Moby – “Innocents” @ Project Gallery, Los Angeles

Currently showing in Hollywood at Project Gallery is a show of photographic works by NY transplant and LA evangelist Moby. Ever since moving to the Sunshine State, the man most famous for his musical abilities has been concentrating more on his visual artwork (as well as his architectural appreciation and criticism). He first had a show in 2011 at Kopeikin Gallery and while that series of work included live crowd shots from his concerts, Innocents is a entirely different type of exhibition, featuring staged shoots and […]

Antony Micallef for the “Stations Of The Cross” Show

The last time we heard from Antony Micallef was in 2012 when he opened a solo show in London at The Outsiders. More recently, he contributed a biblically inspired painting to a group exhibition, Stations Of The Cross, held at a unique setting – the St Marylebone Parish Church. Produced by Art Below, and currently showing until April 17th to coincide with Lent, proceeds from the sales will go towards the Missing Tom Fund. In association with the show, billboards with the artwork were displayed throughout the London Underground although […]

Openings: Geoff McFetridge – “Meditallucination” @ V1 Gallery

On Friday night, Geoff McFetridge presented a new body of work at the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, his second showing with the gallery. The versatile Los Angeles-based artist brought with him a set of paintings featuring his signature minimalistic portraiture as well as a series of smaller pieces. Rounding out the exhibition were some of the ceramic works we first fell in love with back in 2011. Via Highsnobiety & It’s Nice That. Discuss Geoff McFetridge here.

Cyrcle. – “Overthrone! Pooring Reign” @ StolenSpace

Several weeks ago in London, the Cyrcle. crew opened up a new solo show at StolenSpace entitled Overthrone! Pooring Reign. Working with design elements mirrored in their recent street works (like for POW! WOW! Hawaii), the Los Angeles-based duo created pieces that dealt with ideas of the interplay of powers and how one’s mind can be used to conquer one’s fears. Take a look at at more photos below… Discuss Cyrcle. here.
