Openings: “Brutal” Group Show (London)

Lazarides and The Vinyl Factory, joined their forces to bring an exceptional group show to art lovers at the peak of London art week. At the end of last month, photographer Tim Barber returned to Japan for a third solo show (see 2011) at Yuka Tsuruno Gallery. Relations see the New York-based artist present 23 previously unreleased works, a series of portraits, landscapes, and urban studies – all taken with a style he has become known for since his stint as the photo editor at Vice Magazine. Jeff Soto and Maxx242 in Luxembourg

Last month, Jeff Soto (interviewed) along his friend and fellow artist Maxx242 headed to Luxembourg for the Goodbye Monopol 2 event. Monopol was a much loved market chain that closed down a few years ago so organizers invited artists (some others were all ten of The Weird Crew, The London Police, Eyes-B, and Mr. X) to paint the old headquarters. Spoke Art’s latest exhibition opened on October 3rd in San Francisco. Through The Veil features the work of Miami based Tatiana Suarez and Sheffield, UK’s Craww. The pairing have shown together previously at the SF space, so this exhibition serves as a triumphal return / reunion of sorts for the artists, who both depict the female form in very different ways. For those who were busy over the weekend, here is a summary of the latest Banksy pieces for his Better Out Than In art residency in New York. In addition to street stencils, Mr. B also blessed the Big Apple with more “performance art” with a truck filled with animated stuffed animals heading for the slaughter house (see video below). The Popular Workshop in San Francisco opened The Fall, a solo show by Francesco Igory Deiana on the 27th of September. The Italian born artist created a new body of work continuing and evolving his imagery and concepts. Pete Fowler recently opened a solo show at the infamous The Book Club in London. Titled Theme From Boat Weirdos, the show features new paintings and drawings as well as the site specific installation/mural, as a sequel to his previous solo show at Outlaws Yacht Club in Leeds earlier in the year. The inaugural edition of STRARTA fair was opened this weekend at Saatchi Gallery, at the very beginning of London art week.
