Preview: Heiko Müller – “Hunting Night and Day” @ Jack Fischer Gallery

On May 16th in San Francisco, the Jack Fischer Gallery will be hosting the opening reception for German painter Heiko Müller where he will be presenting a new collection of work. Hunting Night and Day will be his second exhibition at the gallery and encompasses a selection of new paintings that feature Müller’s continued exploration of the darker side of nature and the hidden machinations of the animal kingdom, all rendered with a surreal touch. A couple weekends ago, London showgoers had the opportunity to enjoy a selection of new paintings from Ian Francis (featured) at the Rathbone Place location of Lazarides. 10,000 Years From Now is a pretty incredible new body of work featuring the Bristol-based artist’s masterful blend of the photo-realism & the abstract while touching on imagery that included seductive characters & ghostly landscapes utilizing a beautiful palette and intriguing titles. Openings: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “The Future is Always Bright” @ Frey Norris

Along with his current museum exhibition running at the Katzen Arts Center of the American University Museum in Washington DC (covered), Frey Norris unveiled the latest works from Tomokazu Matsuyama in a show entitled, The Future is Always Bright (previewed). The show consisted of sculptures and a mixture of small and large paintings done on amorphous and round-shaped canvases. On May 17th, the Philadelphia Art Alliance will host the opening reception for Adam Wallacavage’s (interviewed) Shiny Monsters. By hanging several new chandeliers within each gallery of the craft and design showspace, the eclectic sculptor will be introducing his hometown to his gothic-surreal lighting ornamentation. Break Night Lovers will feature the duo from down under’s cartoonish stylings executed in the form of new paintings, drawings, and installations. Preview: Eishi Takaoka – “I Am Fine” @ Giant Robot 2

On Saturday night, Giant Robot 2 on Sawtelle St. in Los Angeles will be the stage for 34 of Eishi Takaoka’s new sculptures. The Japanese artist is known for his hand-carved wooden heads which are often painted and then placed atop empty glass medicine bottles.
