Frieze Week NYC ’12: Geoff McFetridge for COOPER COLE @ PULSE

With the Frieze Art Fair opening this weekend in New York, the PULSE Art Fair also took the opportunity to woo art collectors at the same time. Opening today, one of the booths to visit at PULSE is definitely the Toronto-based gallery Cooper Cole and new works from Geoff McFetridge. Teaser: Hush – “Sirens” @ Metro Gallery

As we mentioned in a post in March highlighting a mural from Hush (interviewed) in Melbourne, the UK-based artist has been prepping for a solo at the Metro Gallery. With the opening reception set for May 30th, Sirens will bring fans down under his special blend of East meets West imagery fused with elements of urban culture. Look for a wide array of work including 13 large pieces and 24 smaller more experimental works as well as some limited editions. Another preview image after the jump…

There is no rest for the weary as New York based artist Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) prepares to open a new exhibition in San Francisco at Frey Norris Contemporary. Openings: Urban Legends @ L.A. Mart Design Center

Last weekend at the L.A. Mart Design Center, the Urban Legends auction and exhibition opened their doors to the public. With a series of largescale pieces, murals, photographs, and installations, artists around the world like Chor Boogie, Kofie, Mear One, Shark Toof, Cern, Estria, Martha Cooper, Sand One, Herakut, SANER, Estevan Oriol, Eriberto Oriol, Chaz Bojorquez, RETNA, Andrew Hem, and more were invited to put their work on display. Streets: ROA, Hyuro, Mentalgassi, Moneyless – Katowice Street Art Festival (Poland)

As the work continues to go up in Katowice, Poland for a local street art festival, more photos are continuing to hit the interwebs. Teaser: 2012 White Columns Benefit Exhibition + Auction

Last week, Subliminal Projects was fortunate enough to host an exhibition by British artist Stanley Donwood. Known as the key force in shaping Radiohead’s album covers for more than a decade, Donwood brought a series of works depicting the city of Los Angeles in a world of chaos and cataclysm for this showing.
