Streets: RVA Street Art Festival (Part I)

After revealing the first mural from the RVA Street Art Festival from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) as part of last week’s street art roundup, we now have even more photos for those of you not in Richmond, Virginia. Jeff Soto (interviewed) has sent us some images filled with mural action from the event, including this deeply personal piece he worked on. After a teaser last week, AM is pleased to announce more details to our upcoming City of Fire exhibition. After Passing Through Hong Kong in 2010 with the debut of his now famous massive sitting companion which has now also travelled to New York, and Connecticut, KAWS will be giving his fans in Asia what they have been jonesing for – a solo show. Scheduled to open on May 15th at Galerie Perrotin, The Nature of Need will feature more of the New York based artist and designer’s colorful geometric abstractions. Preview: “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me” @ Copro Gallery

As a followup to a similarly themed show last year, the Copro Gallery will be hosting Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me next Saturday, April 21st. Besides artwork depicting the dark side of the iconic television series, the event will also feature unreleased music from the series, David Lynch coffee and donuts, and a video installation of the Red Room as well as many other surprises and surprise guests. There’s not much info out on this, but thought we would mention it for our readers in the Bay Area tonight (April 14th). Barry McGee, who’s a legend up there, will be revealing an installation at Gallery Paule Anglim’s offsite space (1717 17th Street in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill district) along with some other invited artists. The reception if 3-6 pm so head over early if you don’t want to miss it. This should a nice warmup for McGee’s upcoming PRISM showing in Los Angeles. […]

Teasers: Hilary Pecis & Erin M. Riley – “Consensus” & “Forgotten in a File” @ Guerrero Gallery

This weekend, the Guerrero Gallery gallery will feature exhibitions from both Hilary Pecis and Erin M. Riley. Entitled Consensus, Pecis takes over 100 unaltered image files sourced from Google images to create her artistic compositions. Erin M. Riley presents a new body of work called Forgotten in a File featuring her signature woven tapestries exploring the lives of the internet generation with imagery depicting social media interaction and addiction. If you remember earlier this year, we told you about a new book by Scott Campbell entitled If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long. As you may know, the good folks at OHWOW have a fresh new retail location called the OHWOW Book Club in New York which was the perfect setting for a recent book signing by Campbell for his new publication. Showing: Gregory Euclide – “Nature Out There” @ Nevada Museum of Art

Currently at the Nevada Museum of Art, Gregory Euclide has a collection of works on display collectively entitled Nature Out There. Reminiscent of another artist regularly covered here on AM, Adam Neate (interviewed), Euclide has progressed his work to where there is an added dimensionality to the paintings he creates. Blending natural and found materials with his rendered scraps, the Minnesota-based artist creates encapsulated worlds where “pristine notions of landscape meet the reality of our current environment.” More photos after the jump…

Openings: Tessar Lo – “Past, Present, Past-Present” @ Cooper Cole

A couple weeks ago, the Cooper Cole Gallery held court for attendees of Tessar Lo’s newest solo show titled Past, Present, Past-Present. The new body of work included medium to large-scale pieces featuring dream-like abstract imagery centered on his boy & animal characters and painted with rich and lush colors. Also, available will be a sculptural edition, don’t say, dansé, produced by Dark Matters in an edition of 25 for those interested. More opening photos after the jump…

Openings: George Condo @ PRISM

Last weekend, the PRISM Gallery on Sunset was the stage for a showing from influential American artist George Condo. Featuring a survey of his work including largescale paintings, sculptures, and drawings, the pieces were selected with a special emphasis on the portrait-style work of the last decade in mind. Stop by soon if you are interested in this rare assemblage of Condo’s work in Los Angeles as the short exhibition ends on April 28th to make way for Barry McGee. More photos after the jump…
