The London Police are getting set to bring their impeccable linework and imaginative cityscapes to New York on Thursday, November 17th to grace the walls of the Opera Gallery in the heart of Soho. They are currently working on the new body of work entitled Who Cares Win as we speak and it looks like the paintings are filled with the iconic LADS characters that we have come to love as well as some local references to the Big Apple. Check out some video teasers […]

Showing: “Die Like You Really Mean It” @ Allegra LaViola

Now showing at the Allegra LaViola Gallery on Manhattan’s lower east side is a dynamic group show entitled Die Like You Really Mean It. The exhibition, curated by painters Paul Brainard and Frank Webster, assembles a wide range of more than 20 contemporary artists in the New York City area, including Eric White, Eddie Martinez and Kristen Schiele. Painting is clearly the focus – nearly all of the works are of the medium, but also the diversity of styles and themes of painting suggests that […]

Update: Swoon (London & New Orleans)

It looks like Swoon (interviewed) is in London at the moment judging from this piece seen on the streets by the good people at Hooked Blog. The wheatpasted image is modeled after the stunning Thalassa installation she created for the New Orleans Museum of Art back in June and is a marker for her upcoming show at Black Rat Projects next month. The Murmuration installation and show will open on December 1st and seeing that the NY-based artist is already in town preparing makes us excited to see […]

Openings: Mars-1 – “Everything Under The Sun” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

Mars-1 opened up his show, Everything Under The Sun (previewed) to a packed house at Fecal Face Dot Gallery’s temporary space in the inner Richmond area of San Francisco Saturday night (the gallery’s usual spot is under renovation due to a fire at a neighboring building). The show included a few large scale paintings, including a tondo continuing his eye boggling Infinite Tapestry series. The centerpiece of the show was a sculpture installation filled with extra extraterrestrial creatures and landscapes that would seem to dwell […]

Openings: Tauba Auerbach – “Tetrachromat” @ Bergen Kunsthall (Norway)

After almost a year of steadfast anticipation, Tauba Auerbach finally pulled back the curtains and revealed the magic of her newest body of work this weekend at Bergern Kunsthall in Norway. Tetrachromat marks the booming artist’s first solo exhibition since signing with powerhouse Paula Cooper Gallery to great contention last fall, as well as signifies her first museum solo. Long experimenting with themes of dimensionality, the title of the show references a theory which supposes a small percentage of women have four color receptors rather […]

Teaser / Video: REVOK – “Triumph & Tragedy” @ Vicious Gallery

Coming up in December, REVOK will be bringing a new body of work he is preparing in Detroit for a show in Germany at Vicious Gallery. While in the motor city, the graffiti artist scoured the abandoned, derilict, and burned out shells of homes and building (including an old police station) for materials. These old signs, walls, parts of furniture, and more were fashioned into wood constructs, like what we saw in a recent LA show, each component rich with history and years of Triumph & […]
