Teaser: Rosson Crow – “Bowery Boys” @ Deitch Projects

For one of Deitch Projects last hurrahs, the gallery will host “Bowery Boys,” an exhibition of new paintings by Rosson Crow. For the show, which opens March 4, Crow has used her adopted town of NYC as the theme for her bright and energetic large-scale canvases. Shaquille O’Neal’s curatorial debut opened at Flag Art Foundation this past Friday to a mass of curious art fans. A line filled the lobby just for the elevator up to the duplex gallery space on the 9th and 10th floor. Saturday night was the opening of Robert Williams’ traveling solo show at the Cal State University Northridge Gallery. We originally covered the exhibition in New York, but the second time around was no less stunning. Bringing with him a massive body of work including paintings, sculptures, drawings, comic book covers, and and specially designed wallpaper, the “godfather” delighted his fans in the greater Los Angeles area with his conceptual genius and flawless execution. Just recently, the Joshua Liner Gallery gave notice that they were revising their schedule to include an exciting surprise show opening March 18 by the NYC/Tokyo-based artist collective The Barnstormers. According to insider information leaked to AM from a reliable source, the collaborative group (which includes nearly everyone whose anyone in the street art and associated scene) will be creating individual pieces and site-specific installations that will likely span beyond the walls of Liner’s spacious Chelsea gallery into another gallery space in the building. Oh, how time flies! It seems not that long ago, we were running around New York during Armory Week. But it’s actually been almost a year, and the 2010 ARMORY Art Show is now just around the corner. Tessar Lo and Nimit Malavia recently opened their shows: “Everything we wanted in our nostalgic future” and “I can’t love you but we can romance” (respectively) at Toronto’s Show and Tell Gallery. For both artists, this was their first solo show in Canada. Not surprisingly, Toronto art fans filled the house to see the works from the two talented artists. Opening tonight in the main gallery space of LeBasse Projects is “Deva Loka Los Angeles”, a new body of work from Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano. For anime fans out there, you may recognize his work from Vampire Hunter D and for the video game aficionados, you must know of his character designs for Final Fantasy.
