Recap: Kidult – “Visual Rape” Pop Up Show (Tokyo)

Provocative graffiti artist Kidult recently held a 48 hour pop show in Tokyo entitled Visual Rape. The French artist who made his name tagging his moniker on the storefront of famous fashion brands, particularly those who use graffiti commercially, made sure to include a reference to his notoriety with sculptures (two editions) of Chanel’s tagged facade in the exhibition. Upcoming: Kehinde Wiley – “Lamentation” @ Petit Palais

On October 20th, Petit Palais in Paris will be opening up a new exhibition from Kehinde Wiley entitled Lamentaion. For his first solo show in France, the African American artist will be presenting ten pieces (stain glass works and paintings), some created in his signature style of posing anonymous youths from urban centers in the same way the subjects in classical portraiture. For this showing in particular, Wiley will continuing his use of religious iconography including a reference for the first time to the Virgin Mary. […]

Openings: Conor Harrington – “Watch Your Palace Fall” @ Pace London

After nine months of preparation, Conor Harrington (interviewed) has opened a solo exhibition entitled Watch Your Palace Fall at Pace Gallery London in Soho. Continuing his narrative of politically charged oil paintings, the locally-based artist rendered fights between military male characters dressed in 18th century uniforms, with all the rage and thirst for power evident in their visages. On August 30th, the second street art biennale ARTMOSSPHERE opened its doors at Moscow Manege. Introducing 26 Russian and 42 international artists whose practice was and/or is shaped by street art, the show is definitely unique in its size and concept.
