Upcoming: Zevs – “The Big Oil Splash” @ Lazarides Rathbone

On July 28th, Lazarides Rathbone will be presenting new works from Zevs in a solo show entitled The Big Oil Splash. Included from the French artist, otherwise known as Aguirre Schwarz, will be a series of paintings, monochromes and sculpture featuring his iconic drips and thematically referencing oil spills. He further states – “Ecology is at the heart of this new work. But it was paint, not politics. The work of man on earth extends here in a work of painting on canvas.” Discuss Zevs here.

Showing: FriendsWithYou – “Light Wave” @ Santa Monica Pier

Currently showing at the Santa Monica Pier through September 8th (7-10pm on Thursdays) is a new installation from FriendsWithYou. Light Wave is the collective’s largest installation to date and was created in partnership with the iconic pier’s Twilight Concert Series as well as Snapchat. The huge inflatables and play with light creates a magical setting for beachgoers enjoy through the rest of summer. Discuss FriendsWithYou here.

Openings: Pejac – “Law of the Weakest” (London Popup)

On Thursday, July 21st, Pejac revealed his long awaited London solo show for a private viewing. Installed as a popup at the Londonewcastle Project Space on Redchurch Street, Law of the Weakest included around 30 pieces created in the last couple of months exclusively for this event. Controversy Surrounding The South Park 20th Anniversary Show Censorship

Tonight, the South Park 20th Anniversary Show held in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con unveiled works from artists asked to create works influenced by the animated series. Included here are some of the pieces painted for the exhibition, but the two first ones from Paul Insect (above) and Andrew Schoultz (directly below) were allegedly censored by the South Park Public Relations Team. Previews: Cinta Vidal – “Gravities” @ Thinkspace

This Saturday night (July 23rd) in Thinkspace’s project room, Cinta Vidal will be unveiling a new series of paintings featuring her signature gravity-defying imagery. When you look architectural structures that the Spanish artist paints, you will quickly see the inhabitants defy the laws of physics. The work for this exhibition are mainly her clusters of domestic and natural environments, although there is also one piece that feature her characters in a scattered field of suspended furniture, also something she has been known to paint. Coming up on September 8, OSGEMEOS will be opening their solo show at the 536 West 22nd Street location of Lehmann Maupin in New York.
