Releases: James Jean – “90th Anniversary Mickey & Minnie Mouse Sculpture Set”

Tomorrow (November 10) between 11am-1pm, James Jean (interviewed) will be signing and releasing the Mickey & Minnie Mouse limited edition sculpture set at BAIT Los Angeles to celebrate the 90th birthday of the two Disney cartoons. Created with Good Smile Company, the project transforms the two iconic characters into porcelain succulents frozen in time, shedding and regrowing petals after decades of constant evolution. First Look: KAWS – “GONE” @ Skarstedt Gallery

With the public opening of the heavily anticipated exhibition from KAWS set for tomorrow in NYC, here is a first look at what will be on display at Skarstedt Gallery. GONE features new abstracted paintings that at this point only subtly references the XX and iconic cartoonish characters that used to figure so prominently in the Brookyn-based artist’s work. Tonight at Diane Rosenstein Gallery in Los Angeles, the evolution of graffiti will be on view with a new solo show from one of the most subversive artists out there – KATSU. Tomorrow (November 3rd), as part of a series of solos and group shows put on by Thinkspace at Glendale’s Brand Library & Arts Center, Stefan Thelen aka Super A will be presenting a selection of new paintings from his Trapped series. Entitled Domestication, the new body of work sees the Dutch artist continue to deconstruct cartoon, fairytale, or pop cultural archetypes by cleverly peeling away the surface while revealing the realistic version of the character inside. Last weekend in Copenhagen, Eighteen Gallery hosted the the opening of another great show – Geoff McFetridge’s Coming Back Is Half The Trip. Previews: Jean Jullien – “GIB” @ Arsham/Fieg Gallery

Tonight at the Arsham/Fieg Gallery inside KITH’s SoHo store in New York City, Jean Jullien will be presenting a solo with an interesting concept. For this showing, the celebrated French graphic designer and illustrator will be displaying miniature paintings alongside appropriately sized sculptures and 3D models of Daniel Arsham and Ronnie Fieg leading to an optical illusion, especially when seen in photos. GIB which is “BIG” spelled backwards, will be on display through November 18. Via Hypebeast.

Recap / Videos: POW! WOW! Rotterdam

Last month, another POW! WOW! wrapped up in Rotterdam, their first event in Europe. POW! WOW! Rotterdam featured live music and a special exhibition in the HAKA building, but of course our focus is on the street art that was created at Keilewerf 1 and 2, an area that used to be an industrial part of the city. Along with artists from the Netherlands like Super A (seen above) and Telmo Miel (seen below), the international roster did their best to brighten up the grim concrete walls. […]
