Showing: Zevs – “Supreme Même” @ Over The Influence (Hong Kong)

Returning to Hong Kong almost a decade after his last exhibition (and arrest) there (covered), Zevs currently has a show on view at Over The Influence. POW! WOW! Long Beach finished up the public art for 2018 at the end of last month with another series of great murals and installations for fans of art in the Southern California city. Felice Varini Carcassonne Installation

Visible from May to September 2018, Felice Varini’s latest project is a striking installation at the medieval fortress of Carcassonne in Southern France. Spread on the west front of the city fortifications, 15 yellow circles (composed of temporary thin aluminium strips) all come together perfectly in the field of vision when standing facing one of the gates and is characteristic of the Swiss artist’s geometric perspective-localized paintings. The project from the Paris-based Varini celebrates the 20th anniversary of the inscription of the city on the world heritage […]

Previews: Cleon Peterson – “Blood & Soil” @ Over The Influence (LA)

Tomorrow (July 7th), Cleon Peterson will be opening a brutal new show at the Los Angeles location of Over The Influence. Featuring new acrylic-on-canvas paintings, small bronze sculptures, and one large-scale sculpture, Blood & Soil will continue the locally-based artist’s provocative treatise on the dynamics of power, violence, and oppression. Taking the title of the exhibition from a Nazi slogan, Peterson takes an unflinching look at the rise of nationalism, populist fervor, economic inequality, and political corruption where the lawbreakers and law enforcers are one and the same in today’s […]

Recap: Mark Jenkins – “BRD SHT” @ Lazinc

Just closing over the weekend in London, BRD SHT from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) filled Lazinc with clever sculptural works that mirror his public interventions. At times disconcerting because of the American artist’s use of the human form, the nine sculptural pieces were joined by three canvases and works on paper that also were a testament to his dark humor. Jenkins further explains – “BRD SHT, the show’s title, nods to a license plate in the film Brewster McCloud. In the film, it was a murderous substance and while I understand here […]

Openings: JR – “Horizontal” @ Perrotin Gallery (New York)

A few days ago in New York, French artist JR (interviewed) opened a new show entitled Horizontal at Perrotin Gallery. Also created for the event was his signature eye pasted on the […]
