Continuing his assault on walls around the world, DALeast (interviewed) continued to paint his creatures that appear at home in their urban environment. This newest mural, painted with his signature kinetic brushstrokes, was created for the ongoing Urban Forms Gallery public works series in Lodz, the 33rd piece in the whole project. A couple of weeks ago, Phlegm traveled down to South Wales for the Empty Walls Festival where he painted a large mural on Wood Road right next to the main bus station. Featuring his signature characters acting out the old Welsh tradition of Mari Lwyd, the exaggerated imagery filled with local flavor is a welcome addition to the area. Brooklyn-based artist José Parlá recently opened his latest show at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery. Entitled IN MEIA RES, this fresh body of work is a reflection on the artist’s life. Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) run in New York City included not only outdoor works (here & here), but also culminated in a riveting exhibition in SOHO. Openings: Usugrow – “Inkflow” @ Fifty24SF

Over the weekend, Fifty24SF hosted the opening for Usugrow’s new solo up in the Bay Area. Featuring his calligraphy on the walls as well in the pieces for sale, Inkflow marks his return to the San Francisco art scene after showing there in 2007 and participating in a group show with his Shinganist crew back in 2009 (covered). Streets: Shepard Fairey (Toronto)

After a recent set of murals realized in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, New York, Berlin, and Johannesburg, the tour concluded in Toronto for Shepard Fairey (featured) and the Obey crew. Some of the main pieces were created at the The Gladstone Hotel & Tattoo if you are local and want to hunt these down. Before leaving Los Angeles, UK native D*Face (interviewed) decided to create one more mural for his fans to add to the piece (covered) on the side of the building that that housed his popup show (covered). Mirroring one of the originals that was featured in his exhibition, the new image shows one of his characters looking into the rear-view mirror as he’s driving down a lonely stretch of road.
