New York’s Japan Society recently hosted an exhibition looking at the graphic impact of Japanese prints on art in the contemporary age. Entitled Edo Pop, this showcase playfully juxtaposed traditional ukiyo-e woodblock prints from such masters as Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige with current New York contemporary artists, such as Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) and Aiko. Openings: Augustine Kofie – “California Soul” @ Galerie OpenSpace

Over the weekend, Augustine Kofie’s showing opened in Paris at Galerie OpenSpace, his first true solo outside of the States. Upcoming: Faile – “Les BALLETS de FAILE” @ Lincoln Center (Part II)

Tonight (May 29th) marks the return of Faile’s Les BALLETS de FAILE to the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center with all new works on display. In place of the epic tower installation for the first showing (covered) will be a series of prayer wheels from the Brooklyn duo as well as new paintings. Ukrainian artistic duo, Interesni Kazki, were recently in Lisbon, Portugal, where they did their part for the UnderDogs Project. Former graffiti artist and self-taught photographer Nils Müller opened his solo show at Ruttkowski;68 Gallery in Cologne, Germany, last Friday, the 24th of June. The show followed up his recently released book Vandals and it was the official release of the limited edition of the book as well(we are still giving away one copy of these HERE). Last night, ArtRebels in Copenhagen hosted an opening In/Between, solo exhibition from Hyuro, her first in the Danish capital. The showing from the Argentinean artist known for her street murals, often highlighting the female condition, included nineteen watercolor and ink pieces.
