Streets: World Roundup (July 16 – 22)

Leading off last week’s Streets: World Roundup is this amazing mural (seen above) painted over the course of a year by Josef Kristofoletti. The project was commissioned by the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research and was painted on the side of the ATLAS control room directly above the detector, near the Swiss-French border outside of Geneva by the Texas-based artist. It depicts the artist’s interpretation of what the Higgs boson might look like. For those interested, Kristofoletti also sent us a link […]

Openings: Mike Giant – “Confessions of an Old Dirty Skateboarder” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

Last Friday evening, Mike Giant opened his latest show, Confessions of an Old Dirty Skateboarder at FFDG. The show consisted of new drawings on paper (in his signature clean and precise style done with a Sharpie), Skater Girl photograph prints, as well as an installation of the artist’s personal skate deck collection that serves as a retrospective of the designs he has done over the years. Also for sale at the opening were a few new screen-printed posters for only $20! On hand was the […]

Now, he’s continuing the series of work with a special duo-colored screen print entitled Struggle with Jonathan LeVine Gallery. It’s signed & numbered by the artist and limited to an edition of 25. Get yours here. Discuss WK Interact here.

Rewind: July 16 – 22

This week’s featured video in our Rewind summary is a short film from Miami design collective FriendsWithYou. The focus of the animated shore is an exploration into the life of clouds, a reoccurring motif in Samuel and Arturo’s work. The visual soundscape that results certainly projects the happy and joyful vibes that has become their signature aesthetic. Other notable videos below include: Teaser for Rebecca Lowry, who is showing in August at Design Matters Gallery. BMW Art Car. 1975 – 2010. The LA Launch of […]

Openings: Skullphone – “London, XX12” @ Ivory & Black

A couple weeks ago, the Ivory & Black in London opened their Skullphone showing entitled London, XX12. Featuring a new body of work created with his special technique utilizing dots and layered clear coats, the continuing series initially looks like digital LEDs from a distance – a reference to the street artist’s claim to fame – his digital billboard takeovers. Also included were some sculptures based on molds of his feet as well as some associated items. Discuss Skullphone here.

Streets: Komafest (Part III) – Conor Harrington

After a look at the street pieces Ethos and Vhils put up for Komafest in Norway, we turn our attention to Conor Harrington (interviewed). The UK-based painter worked on several murals while he was in Vardø which featured imagery similar to what was seen during his recent London solo (covered) as well has mix of photorealistic and abstract colonial portraiture. Top photo by Andrew Telling. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Streets: Banksy for the Olympics (UK)

With the Summer Olympics opening this Friday, it was only a matter of time before Banksy put his thoughts on the event out there. Two new images (unknown locations as of yet but presumably in London) were just uploaded to Mr. B’s website – one showing a missile substituted in for the javelin throw and the other stencil placed perfectly next to a a barb wire fence featuring the pole vault. Keep your eyes out for more work from the elusive street artist if you are […]

On the 1st of August, the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art will continue its innovative and pioneering programing with the opening of Brazilian street muralists Os Gemeos first ever solo museum exhibition in the United States. The prospect of seeing the duo, otherwise known as Otávio and Gustavo Pandolfo, have free reign in such space has fans in the States salivating, especially in light of stunning showings at institutions in their home country (see here, here, here, and here). Drawing from the the color and chaos of Sao Paulo, the twins will be […]
