Behind-The-Scenes: Saber – “Keprage RWB”

Since the opening of his show, The American Graffiti Artist (covered), at the Opera Gallery, SABER (interviewed) has been involved in a slew of other shows including Street Cred in Pasadena and Assorted Flavor just last weekend. We thought we would rewind back to the NYC opening and take a closer look at the behind-the-scenes action of the creation of the Keprage RWB print that was released concurrently with that show (details for purchase here). There are more photos after the jump but we would also […]

Preview: Sea No Evil 2011

Time flies!  The annual Sea No Evil benefit auction ($10 donation required at the door) is fast approaching – in fact, it’s this Saturday, June 25th. It seems the lineup and art included in show just gets better each year (see 2010 and 2009), so you will want to be at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium starting at 6pm that night as She Wants Revenge will be playing and Captain Watson from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be speaking. But more importantly for >

In anticipation for the upcoming mini retrospective – A Decade of Prints & Originals that Faile will be throwing at Post No Bills, we wanted to bring you a little preview of the collective’s latest fine art creation that will make an appearance at the show – Puzzle Boxes. Encased in their own hand-painted box, up to 88 blocks combine to form one of 6 base images (one for each side of the cube). This evolution from the original Faile Box seen at their UK show shows […]

Releases: “HEROES & VILLAINS”

According to our friend Amanda Erlanson, the long awaited HEROES & VILLAINS book has finally been released. In it, photographers Tatiana Wills and Roman Cho take snapshots of many of the artists we follow here on AM. Not only are the resulting portraits technically sound, the duo were able to capture the essence of each artist – for example, Shawn Barber (featured) and his tattoos, Tiffany Bozic and her bird, or SHAG (interviewed) in a modern retro setting. We’ve seen the publication in person and were quite […]

The lineup included the likes of Kevin Ancell, Jason Jägel, Saber, Patrick Martinez, Greg Lamarche, Push and Augustine Kofie. Displayed across a wide open space perfectly suitable for this kind of exhibit, the artwork showed an interesting mix of graffiti-style art, mixed media work, and even some traditional painting. More commentary and opening photos after the jump…

Streets: Claudio Ethos (Sao Paulo)

After getting a massive mural up in Los Angeles, it looks like Claudio Ethos has returned home to Brazil. The Sao Paolo-based street surrealist recently posted up a couple of presumably new pieces he did in his native city on his blog before heading over to the CityLeaks Festival. He says one of the characters is sending out the message and the other is receiving the signal. The other piece and another view of the piece above after the jump…

Of course, included in the show are Barry and his wife’s alteregos Lydia Fong and Peggy Honeywell. More photos taken for AM by Henrik Haven after the jump…
