Highlights: ArtPadSF, San Francisco

San Francisco, last weekend, hosted a slew of fine art fairs around the city. One noteworthy fair was the inaugural edition of ArtPadSF (held at the legendary Phoenix Hotel in the Tenderloin), which focused mainly on Bay Area galleries that feature contemporary and emerging art. Each room of the hotel featured a different gallery’s display and the lounge played host to panel discussions on art. Some of the galleries that had a room at the fair included: White Walls, Gallery Anno Domani, 111 Minna, Spoke […]

Contests: Faile – Puzzle Boxes Mobile App & Website

Since our last studio visit (here & here) to Faile’s Brooklyn HQ prior to their Bedtime Stories exhibition, we’ve had something we wanted to get off our chest – but, because we were of course sworn to secrecy at gunpoint, we hesitated to spill the beans on a project involving their top secret Puzzle Boxes. Well, now we can breathe a sigh of relief as the collective has given us the green light. We’re happy to tell you about a unique project in which the duo have […]

Shown in front of a packed theater, the film takes a closer look at MOCA’s groundbreaking Art in the Streets exhibit (covered) while focusing on a number of artists including Saber, Risk, Shepard Fairey, Mister Cartoon and Revok just to name a few. The director’s attempt to display the artistry and effort behind the street […]

Previews: Art HK ’11 – Adam Neate @ Elms Lester

Based on the abundant flow of great artists and galleries into this year Art Hong Kong, we’re confident that the people of China are in for a special treat. Adding to this impressive art fair is one of AM’s favorites Adam Neate (interviewed). Represented by London’s  Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, Adam will be exhibiting a new series of works. It seems that Mr. Neate is continually evolving his craft with the use of 3D sculptural techniques which are again incorporated into these paintings much like […]

Streets: Blu for Outer Spaces Festival (Poland)

Perhaps it’s the warm weather. Perhaps it’s a coming to peace with the whole high profile buffing situation. More than likely, it’s simply that the creative juices are flowing like wine and it’s time to drink. Whatever the case, ever since putting up his first piece since the MOCA incident in Palestra (covered) last month, Blu has been getting paint to wall at near record pace. Since May alone, the street art legend has targeted Jensi (covered) & Bologna in Italy, and Krakow, Poland (covered) with […]

Previews: Stormie Mills & Remi/Rough – Selected Moments @ Unit 44, Newcastle

Currently in residence at Newcastle’s Unit 44 gallery space, Remi/Rough and Stormie Mills are putting together the work for their collaborative exhibition entitled Selected Moments. The pairing have worked alongside each other on numerous occasions, and the very different styles that each artist brings compliment each others work perfectly. Collaborations can often sound like a good idea at the planning stage, but it is rare to see the actual execution of the work, well – work. Stormie’s figurative work occupies Remi’s abstract landscapes in an emotive blend of […]

Teaser: Art HK’11 – KAWS @ Emmanuel Perrotin

Here’s a look at something KAWS is working on (reminiscent of a piece he painted for the gallery last November) for the Emmanuel Perrotin booth at this year’s Art Hong Kong. After stirring up the fanboys with news of an imminent wood Karimoku companion release, the street turned contemporary artist follows up with news that he will be unleashing his double x’s at the vital Asian fair, a wise choice considering the market. Discuss KAWS here.

Openings: Hush – “Twin” @ New Image Art

After first working on a wall in Melrose (covered) several days ago, it finally came time to reveal Hush’s (interviewed) newest collection of works at New Image Art in West Hollywood. Like his street mural at De La Barracuda, the UK-based artist’s exhibition Twin (previewed), which opened last night, plays with the concepts of duality and symmetry while featuring his intricately textured and multi-facted works combining his Far East influences as well as what looks to be a homage to Gustav Klimpt. The gallery walls […]
