Banksy’s Village Petstore and Charcoal Grill Video

NOTCOT has come out with the first high quality video of Banksy’s “Pop-up” store in New York (previously posted). This is essential viewing for all fans who can’t make it in person to Banksy’s Village Petstore and Charcoal Grill as it captures his vision perfectly, even using similar music… The level of animatronics is pretty amazing. Discuss Banksy here.

Opening: Shepard Fairey Weekend in DC

Shepard Fairey’s weekend in DC was very fruitful. He unveiled a new image: “VOTE“ for Barack Obama’s Campaign, held a dialogue at the Corcoran Museum, and showed at the Irvine Contemporary. AM got the breakdown on all the weekend events; including the exclusive after-party with DJ Diabetic himself. All the details, pictures and special surprise await after the jump.

Opening: Dain, Various & Gould @ Brooklynite

Last night, AM visted Bed-Stuy vanguard Brooklynite Gallery for the opening of Time Machine, featuring work by artists Dain (Brooklyn) and Various and Gould (Berlin). Dain’s offerings consisted of his characteristic colorful images of 1920’s glamour girls. Although similar to his posters wheatpasted throughout NYC, the gallery work is more ellaborate than previously seen, with more layering and detail. Various and Gould collaborated on silkscreen prints on canvas, wood and paper of chimeras of celebrity facial features superimposed with stereotype words. These IDENTIKITS are meant […]

Shepard Fairey premiers Obama “Vote” in DC

Last night, Shepard Fairey premiered his newest image for Barack Obama entitled “VOTE”. How fitting that he unveiled this new image in the nation’s capital. Adding to his already iconic creations of Obama: Progress, Hope, and Change, Shepard stated that he wanted this piece to convey the energy and attitude of Obama in contrast to his opponent. No word yet on whether or not he will make this into a print, but we will keep you in the loop. After the first night of “legitimate” […]

Making “Progress” with Shepard Fairey in DC

Last night, AM got invited to follow artist Shepard Fairey around Washington DC and watch him create a few murals at some prominent DC locations. Shepard and his boys hit the ground running Wednesday afternoon, even after a grueling cross country red-eye earlier in the morning. Painting the town Obey was Shepard’s goal.  He was the first person to roll up his sleeves to hit the wheatpaste, and was the last person to leave. It was surreal to see Shepard create a brand new mural […]

Teaser: Faile @ Vauxhall, London

Looks like the Faile collective is working on something a little different for their upcoming show in London. They will be taking over an abandoned schoolhouse (seem to be a common Lazarides tactic nowadays) in Vauxhall for a ten-day project with the opening planned for November 7th. Their show, entitled “Lost the Glimmering Shadows” will be incorporating some Native American imagery along with their distinctive torn poster look. This image as well as the one after the jump show them hard at work…

Teaser: KAWS @ Gering & Lopez

Looks like KAWS has gone back to work after his successful Miami exhibit because we noticed a new painting on the Gering & Lopez KAWS exhibition page. This painting is entitled “Perils” and is a pretty large at 68″ x 86.”  Since it hasn’t appeared before, we believe this piece will be at the upcoming November exhibit in New York.   We can’t begin to imagine how much a painting of this size would command (or what they would price it at) considering we know […]

Skool of Hard Knocks / Above

Street artist Above has forwarded us a video to his newest creation “Skool of Hard Knocks.” He was able to take some existing graffiti and transform it into a lesson for a classroom. Hopefully, he will be able to sit down with us soon and share some of his thoughts with our readers. Some before and after pics after the jump.

Banksy’s “Pop-Up” store in New York

Rumors about a upcoming Banksy NYC show had slowed down the past few days… that was until Banksy dropped a bomb on us and updated his Web site announcing a “pop up” store in Greenwich Village. The store, which actually opened a few days ago, according to Wooster Collective, is called “The village pet store and charcoal grill“. The store contains no paintings or prints, but instead animatronic installations of strange and wonderful animals, the likes of which only Banksy could imagine. In addition, our […]

Opening: JR @ Lazarides

Famed street photographer JR opened his show in London last Friday. Much anticipation had built up over the last week because of the large installations he had put up in Soho (teased previously). We had wondered how his art would translate into the gallery setting, but it looks as though he was able to maintain the “feel” of his work quite nicely. By pasting his photographs onto uneven pieces of wood, aluminum, and even a mirror, he was able to emulate his famous style on […]
