Streets: 1010 // Murals In The Market (Detroit)

With this year’s Murals In The Market from 1xRUN in full swing, photos of the new public art are starting to be shared all over the interwebs. One of the pieces that grabbed our attention was this new wall painted by 1010 entitled Abyss. Although what the German street artist contributed to the event over several days was one of his signature multicolored portals, he changed things up by adding some jagged edges. He further elaborates – “Love Detroit in all its facets!! Just had to paint something […]

Releases: SABER x 1849 Wine – “Iris” Bottle

Following up on his sold out Au Jus, Triumph, and Anonymous collaborations with the 1849 Wine, SABER (interviewed) recently released another bottle he designed for the wine company. Iris is of a 2013 vintage, a pinot noir “rich with dark cherry aromas accented with notes of violets and spice, supported by toast and the faint smoke from the barrel.” The label features imagery taken from the graffiti artist’s Tool of Dissent painting, a burst of colors created in his distinctive urban calligraphy. The first 100 fans who purchase a bottle will […]

Showing: POSE – “FRANKLY” @ Library Street Collective (Los Angeles)

Currently at the Library Street Collective’s new branch in Los Angeles, Jordan Nickel aka POSE has a solo show on view entitled FRANKLY. For the gallery’s LA inaugural residency and exhibition, the artist prepared a series of 16 paintings on paper and one on panel that were created in a more stripped down style and with a more muted palette. He further elaborates – “For awhile now, I’ve been making these quick digital sketches with appropriated Bat Masterson comic frames from the 1960s, and they became […]

Upcoming: Kevin Cyr – “Hommage” @ Matthew Namour Gallery

On September 29th, Matthew Namour Gallery will be presenting Kevin Cyr’s (interviewed) first solo show in Montreal entitled Homage. The new body of work will be a continuation of the American artist’s case studies of everyday work vehicles – the more imperfections, signs of age, and graffiti – the better. As is his usual practice, Cyr spent time documenting and then painting his subject matter while telling their story through his art. Discuss Kevin Cyr here.

Streets: Cleon Peterson // Nuit Blanche Paris @ Eiffel Tower

Following in the footsteps of Shepard Fairey (featured) of creating art at the Eiffel Tower (covered), Cleon Peterson has done something Mr. Obey has never had the opportunity to do – painting the first mural ever directly below the famed monument. Created for this year’s Nuit Blanche in Paris (organized by Palais de Tokyo), the piece is entitled Endless Sleep, a reference to the famous late-night cultural festival. The circular piece features the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature figures inspired by Greco-Roman frescos sans the usual provocative imagery. Discuss Cleon Peterson here.

Upcoming: Jose Parla – “Instincts” @ The Goss-Michael Foundation

On September 29th, The Goss-Michael Foundation will be presenting the inaugural solo exhibition at their gallery on Wycliff Avenue in Dallas, Texas. Instincts from Jose Parla will feature new series of paintings and sculptures that continue the Cuban-American’s street-inspired calligraphic and textured works that have become his signature. For those who plan to make the trip to catch the Brooklyn-based artist’s work in person, the show will run until November 11th. Discuss Jose Parla here. Discuss this show here.

Streets: Isaac Cordal (Croatia)

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka, Croatia, recently hosted Isaac Cordal as the next artist to participate in their Spajalica public art project. The Galician artist spent over a week in the coastal town working on a series of installations that continue his previous work. Inspired by the city’s rich industrial and cultural heritage, Cordal cleverly used the aged buildings and facades as backdrop for his recognizable work. Armed with a ladder, reflective jacket, glue and bag full of works, he roamed the streets and alleys […]
