This week’s Rewind feature is headlined by a Fragmentos, a fantastic new film detailing Vhils and his work in Brazil. Openings: Vhils – “Dissolve” @ Skalitzers (Sydney)

Skalitzers Contemporary Art recently presented all new works from Vhils entitled Dissolve at a location in Sydney. For Mr. Farto’s first exhibition in Australia, the versatile street artist has produced works utilizing a a range of materials as you will see in the photos below. Rounding out the exhibition was an mural outside (seen above) featuring Jack Mundey, a distinguished Australian union and environmental activist from the area. With the general opening set for November 29th, Lazarides (Rathbone Place) is ready to present Vhils’ (filmed) first solo with the gallery in over three years. Devoid will be the Portuguese artist’s most comprehensive show to date and feature work that examines the relationship between the individual and the overwhelming force of urban environments, sourcing much of his materials from derelict spaces in the city. Streets: Le 4eme MUR 2012 – Recap

After reporting on Escif’s murals for Le 4eme MUR last year (here & here), we now have a recap of the 2012 edition. The festival’s name (translated to “the fourth wall”) is a theater expression that symbolizes a virtual wall between the actor and the public which can apparently also be applied to the work of the street artist and his audience. This year’s lineup includes a return of Escif along with Mr Jago, Vhils (above), Tellas, Ericailcane, and 108. Check out more photos below…

Streets: Vhils (Brazil)

After hitting up a slate of festivals recently (Komafest, Walk & Talk, and Fame Festival), Portuguese sensation Vhils has headed over to Brazil for a project of his own. These new pieces created through some of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro attempt to bring attention to the inhabitants of these slum areas. Fame Fest ’12: Vhils, Momo, Cyop & Kaf, Moneyless

After bringing you opening photos from this year’s group show for the Fame Festival as well as most of the notable associated murals, it’s now time to summarize some of the rest of the public art that caught our eye this year.  This includes new pieces from a diverse group of artists from around the world like Vhils (above), Momo, Cyop & Kaf, and Moneyless. Openings: Fame Festival 2012

After sharing tantalizing photos of some of this year’s Fame Festival murals and some video footage as well, we know have some shots documenting the opening of the group exhibition associated with the event. This year’s stellar lineup included of street artists like Ericailcane, Boris Hoppek, Conor Harrington, Moneyless, Cyop & Kaf, Vhils, Momo, & more and it looks like most of them contributed something to the exhibition including some more experimental ceramic works which is what the town of Grottaglie is known for.
