Video: Art of Nick Walker & Josh Keyes in Black Eyed Peas – “I Gotta Feeling” Music Video

Our number one passion here at AM is art, but music certainly comes in a close second. The “I Gotta Feeling” video from the Black Eyed Peas melds together these two things we love. It’s awesome to know that there’s a director out there with a fine taste in art. In the music video, a couple of Nick Walker (interviewed) canvases adorn the walls and a nod is made to his “bicycle vandal” character, one of the works we saw in his “A Sequence of […]

Video: Vernissage – Basel Week Switzerland

Another great video walkthrough by Vernissage TV from Art Basel Switzerland.  If you can get past the videographer’s apparent shoe fetish, you will be able to get a good idea of the atmosphere as well as see some glimpses of the artwork.  For more photos check out our previous post. Discuss Art Basel Switzerland here.

Video: Patti Astor’s “Fun!” Documentary Trailer

AM just found out that Patti Astor (the legendary founder of NYC’s FUN GALLERY) is hard at work on a feature documentary about the early days of the NYC scene. Best known to you as the blond reporter in “Wild Style,” the doc tells the story of the first art gallery in NY’s East Village and the convergence of rappers, breakdancers, graffiti artists and indie filmmakers who contributed to the birth of the hip hop aesthetic. Patti was one of the first curators to show […]

Video: Date Farmers x N.A.S.A – “A Volta”

Coachella-based artist duo the Date Farmers collaborated with the N.A.S.A (North America South America) project on a music video that premiered earlier this week. Entitled “A Volta,” the video featuring Sizzla, Amanda Blank, Love Foxxx definitely had the Mexican-American vibe going with the Date Farmer’s iconic robots creating havoc.  Check out the behind the scenes details at Boing Boing. This video is the third of the series (we showed you the videos with Shepard Fairey and Marcel Dzama previously). Discuss the Date Farmers here. Check […]

Video/Creative Process: Invader @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Invader will be having a solo show at Jonathan Levine Gallery at the end of June. Here’s a little video preview of his trademark “Rubickubism” process and a piece that will be at the show. The geometric complexity and attention to detail Invader utilizes to create his images is really fun to observe in this clip. Also, JLG has just relaunched their website. Not only does the new site showcase their current/future shows and feature their blog, but it also sports a new “backroom” section with selected works from a […]

Preview: Banksy Exhibition @ Bristol City Museum

In his grandest-scale project ever, “Banksy versus Bristol City Museum,” Banksy has installed over 100 works inside Bristol Museum, including an estimated 70 brand new, never before seen pieces. Work ranges from classic Banksy pieces to brand new sculpture, canvas and animatronics like those seen last in the NYC Village Pet Store show. A bit about what fans can look forward to: The lower floor features Banksy’s work exclusively and a re-versioned “pet shop.” Elsewhere in the museum, Banksy’s work is mixed in with the […]

Video: Interview – Pharrell Williams / Murakami / The Simple Things – Basel Week Switzerland

Vernissage TV caught up with Pharrell Williams and interviewed him about the collaboration piece he did with Takashi Murakami and Jacob the Jeweler at Art Basel (Switzerland). Gems of this interview include where he says “bling, I do not wear,” how he was reluctant to call himself an artist, and his love for cupcakes (really, are they THAT good?).  Not sure we would have chosen the same “…simple things” he did, but we loved the sculpture. Discuss Murakami here.

Video: Takashi Murakami – “Superflat First Love”

If you liked the last Murakami x LV anime collaboration where little Aya’s cellphone is eaten by a giant LV Panda, who then swallows Aya into a psychedelic Murakami “Alice in Wonderland” world filled with creatures from his imagination, then you will like this new offering released yesterday from Kaikai KiKi entitled “Superflat First Love.” In a continuation of this story, set six years later, Aya now grown up, again encounters a strange creature who transports her to the 1800’s where she meets a young […]

Preview: Charming Baker “The Meaning of Everything” London Exhibition

It’s good to see our friend Charming Baker, whom we met last year at an LA group show, back in the spotlight. He sent us this addictive video featuring his artwork with the song “Some People Might Think You Look Ridiculous” by The Beautiful South. You can check out this painting at his upcoming show “The Meaning of Everything” at 50 Redchurch Street, London E2 7. This new body of work is a solo exhibition of new paintings and prints. The show runs from June 5th […]
