If you ever wanted to learn about how the “Low Brow” art movement started, this series of videos posted by sketchv might interest you. Broken into 11 parts (Part 1 seen above), these videos recorded the lecture of Robert Williams at the Oakland Museum of California a couple months ago that was part of the L.A. Paint show (currently showing still). Although not the best quality, Williams can be heard covering a wide variety of topics as well as talk about over 60 of his […]

Danko Jones – King Of Magazines from Bad Taste Records on Vimeo. Baby Tattooville alum Dave Cooper and animator Nick Cross recently teamed with Canadian rock band Danko Jones to produce a music video for their song “King of Magazines.” Oddly, this is exactly the sort of video you would expect if classic Cooper characters were animated – a bouncy lush world filled with his voluptuous and lascivious women strangely pulsating to the beat. Make sure you check out this interview by Hi-Fructose about the […]
The Brooklyn Museum recently announced the launching of a new type of museum membership program that builds on the popularity and connectivity of online social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. Called 1stfans, the program gives members access to the museum’s First Saturday events, where they will be able to meet and interact with other members and museum staff. Also, 1stfans will be kept up to date with museum news and events via Facebook, Twitter and email. And for the formal 1stfans launch on […]
Here is a little teaser video for the project we are working on with the good people at Modus Films. It’s a mini-documentary on Jeff Soto and his first ever museum show. The exhibit is entitled “Turning in Circles” (teased) and will open on December 13th at the Riverside Art Museum. Stopped by yesterday to take a look at the installation – it will be epic. AM will have a preview for you in the next several days as well as more surprises.
Sam Flores, David Choe, Jeremy Fish and Alex Pardee were invited by Youtube in conjuction with Upper Playground to do some live-painting on a “cube” as a “pre-show” to the YOUTUBE LIVE concert in San Francisco a several days ago. The results were quite spectacular and unique. Check the video above and photos after the jump.
A story came out today about a section of wall for sale on ebay that had a Banksy stencil on it from his times in Jamaica. The wall is free … but the catch is you have to purchase a set of photographs (one of which seen below) that chronicle the “deconstruction” of the wall – starting bid 100K. The photos are entitled “The Rock” taken by photographer Peter Dean Rickards of The Afflicted Yard, presumably the “owner” of the Banksy. So if you have […]
Recently saw the work of New York artist Aakash Nihilani and thought his simple concept was quite fresh and interesting. His work includes tape installations on the streets as well as canvas pieces. 17 Frost and Bose Pacia hosted an event today in Williamsburg, where you could meet Nihalani and perhaps see some of his impromptu tape work. If you missed this, his show “Extended” will be showing to the public next Saturday, the 29th. The gallery is located at 17 Frost Street (between Union […]
A new celebration video for Obama came out recently by will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas. What’s interesting is that alot of the street art and iconic images from his campaign were incorporated from artists such as Shepard Fairey, Ron English, and even Josh Keyes (not sure why?). Also stopped by Subliminal Projects last night to see the “Letters and Ligatures” show and chatted a little with Shepard Fairey and he told us that some of the video was filmed on the roof and around […]
Shepard Fairey announced that in celebration of Obama’s presidential victory, a special limited print will be released through MoveON.org tomorrow. With all proceeds going to MoveOn – an organization which aims to bring real Americans back into the political process. The release will be on Nov. 7th at 9:30AM PST (12:30PM PST) via MoveOn.org HERE. This print will be an unsigned edition numbered up to 5000. Postponed until Saturday Nov. 9th at 9:30AM PST, looks like there will 1000 signed ones for a larger donation […]
NOTCOT has come out with the first high quality video of Banksy’s “Pop-up” store in New York (previously posted). This is essential viewing for all fans who can’t make it in person to Banksy’s Village Petstore and Charcoal Grill as it captures his vision perfectly, even using similar music… The level of animatronics is pretty amazing. Discuss Banksy here.
