On February 20th, Rime (otherwise know as Jersey Joe) will be opening his debut show with Jonathan LeVine Gallery at their 529 West 20th Street location in New York. Tomorrow night (February 4th), a new solo show will open at Roq La Rue from Jonathan Viner. Strange Math features eight new paintings from the Brooklyn-based artist that continues his nostalgic look back at his youth with his subjects dressed the part while utilizing an era-appropriate palette. His oil on canvas pieces which focus on the the stylish men and glamourous women of the time almost seem like snapshots from period movies with its cinematic compositions. Genalguacil is a small town in southern Spain which has been involved in supporting and organizing art projects for the last 20 years. Slowly turning the town into an open space museum, the locals recently invited Javier Calleja from nearby Malaga to add his contribution to the collection. Those who followed our coverage of Baby Tattooville last year probably remember one of the prized possessions attendees received during the event – a plate designed by Mark Ryden (interviewed). Featuring his iconic imagery, the “Surrealist Plate” was used during the special dinner prepared for the Surrealistic Ball (covered) he hosted with Marion Peck on the final night. Last week, the LA Art Show was in town for another go around bringing in more than 120 galleries representing 22 countries. The 2016 edition was the 21st iteration of the fair, but third year for a special section of the event entitled Littletopia (see 2014, 2015). Currently in Bangkok, the BUKRUK Urban Arts Festival has seen a steady stream of street artists arrive to leave their mark on the capital city.
