Conceptual street artist MOMO has a new exhibition that just opened in New Orleans gallery May Space. We’re fans of MOMO’s work here at AM for a variety of reasons, but one of them is how successfully his outdoor work and most notably his murals, translate to gallery spaces. Butt Joints takes his expressionist use of colour and form inside for a site specific installation featuring signature elements transposed into three dimensional sculptural objects; married with works on canvas and an installation comprised of grids of […]

Currently at the 62 Kingly Street location of Sadie Coles HQ in London, the show Melodrama features an indoor downpouring of oversized plaster raindrops by Urs Fischer. The installation on display mirrors some of the Swiss-born artist’s recent exhibition at the MOCA in Los Angeles, where he also invited his fans to participate in building some of the sculptural work. The indoor storm is suspended over nude headless reclining figures which represent “an earthbound world of disorderly, golem-like forms in contrast with the symphony of […]

Christmas is often an opportune time for galleries to pull out all the stops for blockbuster group exhibitions, and Sheffield’s Bradbury & Blanchard has done just that with their Winter Group Show. The artist run space celebrates the end of its first year in existence with a salon-style exhibition featuring a selection of artists from across the globe and with work across a wide variety of mediums, and in the spirit of Xmas, everything is course for sale and available for immediate pick up. Great for […]

After updating you with a new mural from Augustine Kofie (featured) in Detroit, it’s time to share some more fresh work from three other artists involved with the project. Curated by the Library Street Collective for a downtown mixed-use development (referred to as “The Z”), the undertaking had many American artists involved like Matt W. Moore, Push, Victor Reyes. As you can see, taken in series, their abstract imagery fit nicely together. More photos below… Photo credit: Theonepointeight. Discuss Augustine Kofie here.

Nike Vault at the STAPLES Center recently launched The Kobe Prelude Experience. For eight weeks, they are showcasing Kobe inspired artwork by different artists, and every Saturday they will unveil a new piece. Each piece is tied to a key moment in Kobe’s career. LA-based artist, Allison “Hueman” Torneros, unveiled the first piece in the eight part series the other night. Nike commissioned her to create a surreal piece inspired by his 81 point game. Torneros explains, “I wanted my artwork to portray the energy he […]

The “main fair” as it is affectionately called by art lovers in Miami is of course the centerpiece of Art Basel Week. Not just prestigious by namesake or by the list of illustrious galleries, but more so the high level of art exhibited by the artists who want to put forward their best work. As always, it felte like there was so much blue-chip goodness, but so little time at Art Basel. From Kapoor (seen above), Colen, Martin, De Kooning, Chamberlain, Pruitt, Houseago, Creed, Auerbach, Kusama to Longo, just to […]

The year is coming to a close and as with any year’s passing we tend to stop and reflect. In doing so, we can certainly say this was the year of the Underdogs. And by Underdogs, we mean a band of art activists turning Lisbon upside down with one large scale mural project after another, rivaling cities five times its population. The year ending show at the Underdogs Gallery appropriately titled TIMELINE takes pause to celebrate not only the year’s incredible accomplishments, but the the marking of […]

Dutch painter Chris Berens recently opened his long awaited first ever solo show in Japan at the Megumi Ogita Gallery in Ginza, Tokyo. Nensha was artist’s only show for 2013 and he created a completely new body of for it, which was strongly inspired by Japanese culture, tradition and life style. The entire process began with a visit Japan earlier this year, painting on the new pieces through the year, and finally opening a show on the 7th of December, which was captured by the film crew […]

Back in October, we shared with you a project that the Library Street Collective in Detroit had arranged at a downtown mixed-use development (referred to as “The Z”). A series of murals had been painted already in the ongoing venture at that time and now we have updates for you on some of the newer walls. This particular piece we are focusing on here was created by Augustine Kofie (featured) as you can see from the architectural influenced abstract imagery. Photo credit: Theonepointeight. During Art Basel Week, numerous artists trek to Miami to set up artistic pop-up projects. One of our favorites this year was by the Brooklyn-based Faile and Bast. They brought their nostalgic arcade-based exhibition entitled Deluxx Fluxx to entertain both the eyes and souls of patrons that stopped by their fresh throwback arcade. As previewed in our studio visit, this collaborative project with Perrier is now in it’s third iteration (version 1.0 in London & 2.0 in NYC) and it continued to push the envelope. It wasn’t […]

One of our contributing photographers in the past, Birdman, recently arranged for some artists to paint in an abandoned water park located somewhere in the Mojave Desert between California and Las Vegas. The project in association with VNA saw Risk, Meggs, Insa (along with some suicide girls decked out in Insa gear), Uglar, and Echo made their mark in and around the structures that exuded the aura of a failed American Dream. More photos from the can be seen in Issue 24 of Very Nearly Almost Magazine with some […]

Mexican-based artist Curiot, and his Philly-based colleague, Nosego, opened their two man show entitled Unknown Elements on 14th of December at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City, California. Finding and teaming up two artists that don’t have a history of working together can be a big challenge for the gallery and curators, but collaboration was inevitable in this case. They proved that by putting up shows that blended two bodies of work into one, not only by painting a mural inside the gallery space, but also by […]
