Coming in October, Karen Chau is set to make her debut with Sloan Fine Art and we’ve got special teaser images of some of the works that art going to be at the special Halloween showing. For those that may not immediately know the Chinese painter, look closer… You may recognize her style as she’s the creator of one of our favorite children’s cartoon Ni Hao, Kai-Lan currently on Nickelodeon. (Sorta reminds you of Hoho right?) Check out another image after the jump.

Looks like Superflat icon Takashi Murakami is a fan of UStream seeing as he has already uploaded about 100 impromptu videos of his life and works in the studio. For example, the footage seen above sheds light on what looks to be his biggest painting to date – “Cloud Dragon”. Listed under “takashipom”, you can see the full list of what you can watch (if you can get past the annoying ads) on his channel here. See another example of him at work in the studio […]

Some of our lucky readers in Japan have already seen this limited edition book about Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyams’s (interviewed) career and artwork. The book was initially released regionally in Japan this past January, but now, this amazing book has finally made its way to the United States. The hardcover from Panorama publishing covers the past 5 years of Matsu’s career and is written in duo languages (English/Japanese) by curators from the Andy Warhol Museum, NYU and Tokyo. Pick yours up at Joshua Liner Gallery, Frey Norris or Reed […]

Is it just us or is it a little ironic that Damien Hirst is showing at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, especially since included is one of his famous formaldehyde shark tanks (although this current specimen, a great white was apparently already dead, unlike the tiger shark that rocketed him to fame in 1992)? As we first told you about here, Hirst’s show, which will run through September, is a retrospective of his most famous pieces including spin paintings, skulls, and formaldehyde pieces, but none […]

Opus Art in Newcastle opens the second of it’s “Fresh Cream” group shows this Thursday, and we can share with you an image from each of the exciting group of young artists involved. Some names may be familiar to our readers already, such as North-East native Hush (interviewed), and London-based Lex Thomas, who’s small but beautifully rendered classically inspired work intertwined with her pixelated backgrounds we recently saw with Opus at the Scope Fair in Miami during Basel week. Other artists showing in “Fresh Cream […]

AM was lucky enough to be able to attend the Los Angeles premiere of Banksy’s “Exit Through The Gift Shop” earlier tonight at the historic Los Angeles Theatre. With the art community on high alert, the cavernous and exquisitely beautiful theater was filled (at least the first floor) with collectors, celebrities, pseudocelebrities, and knowledgeable street art fans. As we guessed in an earlier post, no expense was spared for this important opening with major media outlets on hand to witness the many installations on site […]

As we suspected, Banksy wasn’t done with Los Angeles after the first stencil (security guard with Koons dog) he put up yesterday. Seen above is a newly discovered piece in downtown LA that is raising expectations for the special premiere of his documentary tonight in a secret location. As opposed to his premiere in NY (btw, we are giving a poster away in that article), the Bristol Bomber actually appears to be in town for this screening and by not announcing where it will be […]

As mentioned in our preview, Amanda Visell’s exhibition, “Primeval Love” opened last Friday at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Because of the vintage feel to her paintings and the imagery she decided to work with, the show blended in perfectly with the surroundings. In fact, as you can see from the photo above, this was definitely one of most unique and eye-catching settings we have seen for an exhibition in a while. More images after the jump…

As his upcoming show at NYC’s Joshua Liner gallery quickly approaches in just a couple weeks, Shawn Barber (featured) recently sat down with AM for a quick discussion on the art of getting, giving and painting tattoos. Known primarily for his sittings with tattoo legends and artists, Shawn’s latest exposition, “Tattooed Portraits: Chronicle” looks to be no less than the stellar work we’ve come to expect, as evidenced by the teaser images he’s sent our way. Full interview and show preview after the jump.
