Art Focus: Claire Streetart

Claire Streeart is a Parisian street artist who work focuses on life-size couples kissing, hugging, and showing their affections. No surprise here as Paris is the City of Love. Keeping up with yet another mural going up across the streets of Los Angeles, we caught up with MSK/AWR graffiti writer RIME as he was putting up his signature character design in the arts complex overseen by Warren Brand. This week’s featured wall for our street art roundup from around the world is a sweet collaborative piece between Austrian artist Nychos and the German-based old school legend Flying Fortress. Art Focus: Boa Mistura

Boa Mistura or “Good Mixture” is made up of five Spanish artists, Arkoh, Derko, Pahg, Purone and Rdick, who have developed their work in different fields including graffiti and mural painting, to graphic design and illustration. Collectively, they meld their talents together for various endeavors like this recent Participative Urban Art project in Vila Brâsilandia, one of the favelas in São Paulo. After a successful showing during Art Basel Week Miami, it looks like Nick Walker (interviewed) has been working on some new imagery featuring his resurrected vandal. These new pieces in Paris feature his signature character working his magic on multiple walls including a collaborative mural with SheOne as part of the part of the ParisFreeWalls project curated by MSA. Teaser: Vhils @ 18 Gallery (Shanghai)

It looks like Vhils (filmed) has been putting in work in Shanghai as he prepares for his show opening on March 31st at 18 Gallery (presented by Magda Danysz). Like JR before him, he’ll be introducing some of that European street aesthetic to the Chinese port city. Even though he’s currently preparing for a show at Known Gallery this upcoming weekend with fellow 7th letter member ZES, RETNA took the time to hit the streets of Los Angeles again. Featuring his signature style and lettering, he finished his latest large scale mural in just a couple of days. Last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) brought the OBEY show to Dallas for a series of street murals at the request of the Dallas Contemporary. In conjunction with the project, the institution which is modeled after European kunsthalles or art centers also hosted PHENOMENON, a party with Shep providing the music as DJ Diabetic.
