Over the weekend, Ai Weiwei unveiled a provocative new installation on the facade of Palazzo Strozzi in Florence which continues his commentary on the current refugee crisis in Europe. Entitled Reframe, the Chinese artist’s latest public work will features 22 life rafts attached to the historic building’s windows, a striking critique of the handling of the humanitarian crisis. In his continuing effort to raise awareness about the refugee crisis, Ai Weiwei recently installed a new piece at Vienna’s Belvedere Palace as a part of his first solo exhibition in Austria, translocation – transformation . Titled F Lotus the piece consists of 201 rings with 5 life jackets on each, floating like lotus flowers and forming a big letter F. The disturbing photo of the Syrian child Alan Kurdi laying drowned on the beach has become an a rallying point for those concerned about the refugee crisis. In July 2015, Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei finally got his passport back four years after Chinese authorities seized it preventing him from leaving the country. Ai Weiwei Pours Paint Over Designer Clothes For Magazine V

Last year, V Magazine sent over clothes to Ai Weiwei from 14 young designers carried by Dover Street Market, Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo’s concept store.
