Featuring works by Andrew Schoultz, Kenton Parker, RETNA, Andrew Faris, Paul Insect, BAST, eL Seed, Jenny Sharaf and Word to Mother, this showcase is the debut presentation of their work in the region for most of the artists included. Previews: “Between The Lines” @ The Mine

The trend of artists and galleries introducing their work in Dubai continues with an upcoming urban contemporary group show opening at The Mine on May 11th. Curated by Rom Levy, Between The Lines will include works by Andrew Schoultz, Kenton Parker (seen above), RETNA, Andrew Faris, Paul Insect, BAST, eL Seed, Jenny Sharaf and Word to Mother. The idea of this showcase is to confront today’s overly decorative art scene and return it back to where it all began – the line. This purest and simplest form of visual expression […]

Well, it’s been a tough secret to keep, but after months of silence & speculation the cat’s finally out of the bag: Banksy is opening a new exhibition featuring his unique vision of theme park giant – Disneyland. Entitled Dismaland, Banksy & friends have designed & built a contemporary replication of the iconic amusement park experience, but this time, the anonymous contemporary artist from Bristol looks to create a “bemusement” experience like non other for those fortunate enough to make their way to the United Kingdom for his “biggest show to […]

Fashion: Bäst, Paul Insect, and Rostarr for Cocurata

Artists Bäst, Paul Insect, and Rostarr have recently collaborated with a new fashion label, Cocurata, on their inaugural collection. Bringing an urban sensibility to the design, the new line entitled Extraction is a nice start to the company, founded by George Gorrow and George Benias. Their idea was to arrange a “direct exchange between artist and artisan – a street artist working with a jeweler, a sculptor collaborating with a perfumer or a painter creating bespoke, ready to wear pieces – that would result in artwork […]

Showing: “Positivilly Marvillainous” @ Eric Firestone Gallery

Eric Firestone Gallery in East Hampton is currently hosting the Positivilly Marvillainous group show, a title borrowed from the smart word play of George Herriman, the creator of the Krazy Kat comic. The power of comics and cartoons, and the way they represent characters and tell the story is the main theme of the show. The idea that “still, simple and sophisticated characters tell our stories better than a complicated plot,” resulted in an exhibition that champion the character itself. The show features works by established and up and […]
Pulse NY fair 2014 AM 37

Frieze Week NYC ’14: PULSE

Once considered a top satellite fair for emerging to mid-career artists, PULSE lost some of that reputation in recent years, as many of its exhibitors jumped ship to other competing fairs. However, at the beginning of 2014, PULSE took on a new director tasked with bringing it back to its former status. And the difference was somewhat visible last week, as PULSE New York emerged with a smaller, more highly curated show. Amongst the booths, there were a few standouts worth mentioning, such as works […]
Faile Deluxx Fluxx Arcade Miami Basel AM 04

Basel Week Miami ’13: Faile & Bast – “Deluxx Fluxx”

During Art Basel Week, numerous artists trek to Miami to set up artistic pop-up projects. One of our favorites this year was by the Brooklyn-based Faile and Bast. They brought their nostalgic arcade-based exhibition entitled Deluxx Fluxx to entertain both the eyes and souls of patrons that stopped by their fresh throwback arcade. As previewed in our studio visit, this collaborative project with Perrier is now in it’s third iteration (version 1.0 in London & 2.0 in NYC) and it continued to push the envelope. It wasn’t […]
