Auctions: Mad Hatter’s Ball @ Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

Here’s something that grabbed our attention, and is certainly worthy of yours. Our friends Richard Scarry & Chippy Coates are organising a charity art auction entitled Mad Hatters Ball at the venue for the Banksy exhibition and Art from the New World, the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery. Art Action for Kids aims to raise funds for local kids through a series of arts programmes at the soon to open M Shed. Check out a preview of some of the works on offer from […]

Studio Visit: Lucas Price

Lucas Price seems to be an artist in an ever changing state of evolution. His last major UK solo show Jesus Help Me Find My Proper Place suggested a level of confusion within its title – the work exhibited was produced in a variety of styles in an almost perfect allegory for his life as a fine artist under his own name, and also his street bombing alter ego of Cyclops. The work in the accomplished exhibition suggested that the artist had been in a […]

Teaser: Armory Week ’11 – Ryan McGinness – “Women: The Blacklight Paintings” @ Country Club

Following up on the sultry success of the first installment of Women: The Blacklight Paintings during Art Basel Week at South Beach’s Club Madonna (covered), Ryan McGinness will yet again be teaming up with Country Club and The Standard to initiate part two of the event-based project during this years Armory Week in New York. This time, fluorescent painted dancers will flock to the rooftop club Le Bain at The Standard NY, serving as the performance art backdrop to McGinness’ Blacklight Paintings. The impending party […]

Happy Presidents’ Day

For those of you lucky enough to have today off work in the States, here is Ron English’s (featured) salute to the Presidents’ Day holiday. George Washington never looked better remixed with some comics and modified dollar bills.  For those of you who missed Ron’s recent solos in New York and the LA area, he’s scheduled for another show in Texas at the end of March at the International Museum of Arts and Sciences. Discuss Ron English here.

POW WOW ’11: Suitman

One of the highlights of our trip to Hawaii for POW WOW ’11 was spending some time with Young Kim. The performance artist, photographer, designer, creative director, and videographer has worked with many the major brands out there. His famous alterego – Suitman – is the physical representation of his cultural alienation and acceptance issues as he has lived and worked in many places since childhood. With a long line of people waiting to be photographed for one of his personal projects in the signature […]

Studio Visits / Preview: James Jean – “Rebus” @ Martha Otero

As you may know, James Jean (interviewed) has an upcoming show enititled “Rebus” at Martha Otero on March 12th. What you may not know is that this body of work has been over two years in the making. Since his groundbreaking show “Kindling” at Jonathan Levine, James has been expanding his style to a body of work that’s larger in scale and looser in composition. AM had a chance to stop by and hang out at his Los Angeles studio last year where he was already neck […]

Andy Warhol: “The Last Decade” @ Brooklyn Museum

Last Fall, AM caught an excellent exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. The show entitled Andy Warhol: The Last Decade was an epic collection culled from the last 10 years of the famed artist’s illustrious career. The survey included almost 50 large scale works that demonstrated the newer styles which Andy Warhol incorporated into his already diverse repertoire in the latter part of his life. Not only did the pieces demonstrate the energy and vitality of his vision, it also displayed his artistic and business ventures […]

Signings: Kris Kuksi – “Divination and Delusion” Book @ Joshua Liner

It’s always fun to run into our friend Kris Kuski as he was recently in New York to sign his latest book Divination and Delusion at Joshua Liner Gallery. Numerous fans were on hand to catch Mr. Kuksi in the flesh and he was more than happy to meet and greet each one. More pics and a giveaway for you after the jump.

Openings: ‘Mixed Doubles’ @ Signal Gallery

AM attended our first opening at Signal Gallery’s new and much larger space for their Mixed Doubles group exhibition last week. John Squire was probably the first artist we ever collected from ‘art prints’ from back in the late 80’s when he produced Pollack-esque cover art for his band The Stone Roses. We collected the band’s limited 12 inch records (and still have them) with the limited art prints included in the package. Fast forward to 2011 and Squire is still working within the realm […]

Teaser: Clare Rojas – “Inside Bleak” @ PRISM Gallery

It was during the opening of the wonderfully curated Come As You Are group show (covered) at the PRISM Gallery that we first saw these abstract works from Clare Rojas.  There’s no telling if she will continue to explore this new direction, but she will be returning to the three story architectural space on the western end of the Sunset Strip this Saturday night, February 26th with a new body of work entitled Inside Bleak as well as a performance under her stage name Peggy […]
