Releases: Risk – “Old Habits Die Hard”

1xRun recently teamed up with Roger Gastman to create an extensive monograph for one of the most legendary LA writers and graffiti icon RISK (interviewed). The Detroit-based publisher released these 350 page hardcover books on July 17th, coming either with a limited edition print or original artwork. The untimely recent passing of Justin Van Hoy has had an huge impact on the artistic community he was associated with. The Los Angeles based gallerist, artist and designer sadly lost his long battle with cancer in November shortly after his book Milk and Honey: Contemporary Art in California was published. NASA recently released a video they call Perpetual Ocean which tracks all the ocean currents from around the world. Our friend Roger Gastman has been a busy boy. First he was the consulting producer for Exit Through the Gift Shop, then he curated the Sanrio anniversary art show, and later in 2011, he’ll be helping the MOCA to curate their Art in the Streets exhibition. On Saturday night, AM attended the opening of “Rooms” at Scion Space (previewed). Preview / Setup: Rooms @ Scion Space

AM swung by Culver City’s Scion Space as a large group of artists, namely Adam Wallacavage, Bill Daniel, Chris Stain, Dan Monick & Caitlin Reilly, Dueling VHS, Justin Van Hoy, Kime Buzzelli, and Rocky Grimes, were busy building out and setting up eight unique and different rooms throughout the massive space.  Curated by Swindle Magazine and “Exit Through the Giftshop” producer Roger Gastman, “Rooms” seems to be a re-visitation of missing youth, an exploration into the minds, hearts, and backgrounds of each artist.
