In what will serve as phase one of a broad-arcing project from the famed contemporary artist, Ryan McGinness will be debuting the first paintings from a new body of work, entitled Women: The Blacklight Paintings, during the epic week of art and fun about to ensue in Miami, thanks to a collaborative effort from Cincinnati-based gallery Country Club, art-centric boutique hotel The Standard Miami and gentleman’s hotspot Club Madonna. With eventual travel plans for New York and Los Angeles, the suggestive series of work – encompassing drawings, paintings, sculptures and prints – is based on figurative drawings of over 50 models completed during sittings with the artist over the past year. Club Madonna will host the first four fluorescent blacklight canvases, while the Standard will replace their printed bar materials with items designed by McGinness for the Women project.
McGinness will also complete a blacklight mural titled “33 Women” for Wynwood Walls in conjunction with NYC-based The Hole’s South Beach activities, as well as exhibit a collection of earlier blacklight canvases with Michael Kohn Gallery at Art Basel Miami Beach.
