Two big firsts are happening with artist Zhang Huan. First, he is going to show solo at Culver City’s Blum & Poe for the first time. Over the weekend, Shows & Tell Gallery in Toronto opened a two person exhibition, Double Rainbow Rainbow (previewed), a smart curatorial pairing of two woman that each play with color in distinct and effective ways. A couple of nights ago, we headed over to the Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) to check out two show openings. One was Street Cred (covered), and the other was Inside Out from the renowned Clayton Brothers (featured). Last Sunday, AM attended the screening and Q+A for Kenny Scharf: More, Newer, Better, Nower, Funner, as part of a series of short films at the Levis Film Workshop, each based on an artist in the Art in the Streets exhibition. The last time Barbara Kruger had a solo exhibition in Los Angeles, it was for the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in 1999. Thanks to L&M Arts in Venice, Angelenos are once again able to immerse themselves in a one-woman show filled with her recent work. Consisting of a multi-channel video installation running 13 minutes, a room “wrap”, exterior wall projection, and room filled with smaller-sized text pieces on panel, the legendary conceptual artist provided a multitude of options to receive her messages and ideas. As we mentioned in our article documenting RETNA (featured) painting the side of the Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA), tonight marks the opening of Street Cred, an exhibition featuring a LA-centric roster of graffiti and street artists (as well as fine artists who have street influences in their past). Australian-based artist Rod Luff’s exhibition, The Moleskin Project (previewed) opened last Thursday, which also signified the first show put on at Spoke Art in San Francisco.
