As we previously reported, since May 26th, Die Kunstagentin gallery in Cologne, Germany has been hosting a solo by Addam Yekutieli aka Know Hope. For this showcase, the Tel-Aviv-based artist created an all new body of work strongly influenced by the refugee crisis.
The Truth, As Told In Our Mother Tongue includes a large installation where recurring bird characters are flying towards a hole in a barbed wire fence. Symbolizing the painful journey of people escaping the horrors of war, this large work is juxtaposed against a smaller sculptural piece. Placed in the very center of the gallery space is a nest made of the same wire with the same birds starting a new life in it. Emotive and poetic, these two pieces work well with the rest of the show, creating a coherent install that works both visually and as a narrative. The rest of the exhibition includes pieces from his new Transparency series, that speak of borders, patriotism and natural identity, through silhouettes painted on the background of collaged canvases with patterns of wire fences.
The artist marked this event with the release of a new limited edition that follows the work showcased in the gallery. Our Unpoliced Hearts is a 5-color silkscreen print on 300g Hahnemühle paper with 1-colour silkscreen print on canvas, with both elements individually hand-sewn one to another, measuring 50 x 70 cm. The regular edition consist of 50 copies, and the 2nd edition that includes hand-painted and hand-written elements comes in a low edition of only 10 pieces, both available through Die Kunstagentin gallery.
