Openings: Anonymous Gallery – “Flash” @ Wooster Street Social Club

A while back, AM attended the opening of the group show Flash curated by Anonymous Gallery. Hosted at Wooster Street Social Club, the exhibition had many notables including as Anthony Lister, Curtis Kulig, Dan Witz, Eric White, Greg Lamarche, Kenji Hirata, Kenzo Minami, James Jean, Logan Hicks, Nick Walker, Ron English, Shelter Serra and Tristan Eaton. Previews: Josh Keyes – “Migration” @ Jonathan Levine

On October 22nd, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be unveiling his latest series of work at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. In his second exhibition with the Chelsea showspace, Migration focuses on what would happen when the unnatural changes in the environment forces the climates to abandon their normal cyclical zones. This wild shifting causes the merging bio-habitats, thus changing the migratory patterns of animals with the ensuing chaos depicted in renowned Keyes fashion. Openings: “Abstractions” @ Opera Gallery

AM recently attended the opening of Abstractions at New York’s Opera Gallery. The special group show housed two separate groups of artists. The first was a retrospective from the old school abstract movement from the 1940 to present day. Original works from artists such as Miro, Francis, Soulages, Hartung, Fontana, Arman and Matta were on display. This contrasted with the second group of names from today’s artistic movement like Rostarr, Bast, Ron English, Saber and more who have evolved in their own form of abstraction. […]

AM recently witnessed the return of Lisa Yuskavage to David Zwirner as the New York based artist unveiled a new series of paintings in her third show with the gallery since 2006. Seen were her classic female nudes depicted in cartoonish yet erotic compositions. The color palettes she selected were vibrant, rich and diverse which complimented her wide selection of environments well. Openings: MODE 2 – “Offerings” @ Lucas Carrieri Gallery

British graffiti writer and fine artist MODE 2 recently held a solo exhibition of fresh works at Germany’s Lucas Carrieri Gallery. Openings: Erik Foss – “Avarice” @ Mallick Williams & Co.

Mallick Williams led off the art season with solo exhibition recently with a show coinciding with the 9/11 tragedy by New York contemporary artist Erik Foss. The show entitled Avarice is a series of over 80 abstract paintings featuring challenging tha status quo notions of propriety and function between the worlds of high art and downtown culture. Openings: Meggs – “Inner Demons II” @ Backwoods Gallery

Prior to showing in San Francisco, the talented Meggs exhibited the second part of his Inner Demons exhibition at Melbourne’s Backwoods Gallery. Similar to his showing in London’s Red Bull Studios, the artist returned to his home country to display a collection of paintings, sculptures and prints utilizing his signature wild strokes & splash techniques. Seen: Agnes B – “Certain Young French Photography & Drawings” + “Holding Pattern Outpost”

AM recently stopped by Agnès B’s Howard Street flagship store to catch two special group shows exhibiting at the “Galerie Boutique”. The first was Certain Young French Photography and Drawings featuring works by Claire Adelfang, Claudia Imbert, Luna Picoli Truffaut, Marc Cellier, Nicolas Dhervillers, Matthias Olmeta, Leonard Bourgois-Beaulieu, Leionel Avignon and Kiki & Loulou Picasso. The second was Holding Pattern Outpost which showcased the winning works of MOMA PS1’s 12th Annual Young Architect’s Program. Check it out after the jump.
