Openings: Ai Weiwei – “absent” @ Taipei Fine Arts Museum (Part I)

AM recently visited Taiwan to catch  Ai Weiwei’s absent exhibition at the TFAM (Taipei Fine Arts Museum). As the show’s title implies, Ai Weiwei was not present for the opening as he’s still working on clearing his previous “issues” with his home country’s government. This museum show of the controversial Chinese artist is practically a retrospective ,with spanning works from 1983-present, giving the people of Taiwan a taste of the talent and unique point of view that Ai brings to the table. The showing encompasses a broad […]

Studio Visits: JR – “Encrages” @ Galerie Perrotin

In anticipation of his solo exhibition at Galerie Perrotin on November 19th, AM recently stopped by JR’s New York studio. The show entitled Encrages will take over both floors of Emmanuel Perrotin’s beautiful flagship space. The TED prize winning photographer is going to need it as this giant exhibition will bring together many of JR’s past projects including Women are Heroes and Wrinkles in the City. Also included in the show will be works from his global tour to China, Africa and the Middle East to name a few stops. Fans […]

Streets: Faile Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

AM was recently onsite to bring you Faile breaking ground at the prominent Houston & Bowery mural (before they headed to London for their solo). As you saw in Part I, the basic foundation of the work was a ginormous collage featuring much of the classic imagery created by the collective (both new & old). In an effort to dodge the crazy weather and rain, the two Patrick’s worked morning to night without assistance to wheatpaste the base of their work. After day one, the efforts paid off […]

Previews: Faile – “Fragments of Faile” @ Lazarides (Rathbone)

Today, Faile’s (featured) latest exhibition Fragments of Faile will be revealed at London’s Lazarides Rathbone gallery space. As mentioned in our teaser, the details to this show was kept close to the vest as all the Brooklyn duo wanted revealed was that there was a new direction for this body of works. Now that the opening is imminent, the collective sent us some preview pics to share with our readers. From what we see, it looks like the Patricks have gone back a little to their painterly roots and created a […]

Openings: Christie’s x Murakami – “Tohoku-Pacific Earthquake Benefit” Auction @ Gagosian

We recently broke news of a special benefit auction, New Day, created by  Takashi Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Co. & Christie’s to help the victims of the tragic Tohoku-Pacific Earthquake. Last week, AM stopped by to catch the special viewing of the fresh works from many stars of the contemporary art scene. Held at the Gagosian Gallery Madison avenue location, works from artists such as Zeng Fanzhi, Mark Grotjahn, Damien Hirst, Thomas Houseago, KAWS, Jeff Koons, Friedrich Kunath, Mr., Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Gabriel Orozco, Anselm Reyle, Cindy Sherman, Aya […]

Teaser: Faile – Fragments of Faile @ Lazarides (Rathbone)

As you know, Faile (featured) has been hard at work creating the mural for the iconic Houston & Bowery wall in New York. But, what we left out for the past year was the fact that they were secretly in their lab putting together a new show together for their fans in London. Details are tight as they’ve decided to keep this show a surprise but from what we know, the collective will be taking it to a whole new level when the new work is […]

Openings: AJ Fosik – “Time Kills All Gods” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Opening along side Josh Keyes at Jonathan Levine was sculptural artist AJ Fosik. The show entitled Time Kills All Gods is a tour de force as AJ brings the hammer with this latest endeavor. We’ve long been impressed at his creative wood and metal workings that depict unique animals, but this time he ups the ante with a serious boost of imaginative mythical creatures while tackling the ideas of religion and the worship of false idols. More photos after the jump…

Openings: Ryan McLennan – “Abominations” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Opening last week alongside Chloe Early at Joshua Liner Gallery was Brooklyn-based painter Ryan McLennan. With his new body of work, Abominations (previewed), McLennan takes a look at the animal kingdom through his unique eyes and creates instances that often reflect and draw parallels to human situations. We liked the raw emotions coming out of his animal friends and the also the interesting use of black backgrounds as opposed to the white that we are used to seeing from him. This show runs until November 19th […]

Streets: Faile Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part I)

Guess who’s next up to bat for the infamous NYC wall located at the corner of Houston & Bowery? The boys that form the Brooklyn collective known as Faile (featured) took their swing and made their home city proud with this new mural seen above. Following in the footsteps of urban heavyweights such as Kenny Scharf, Barry McGee, Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Keith Haring and most recently JR, the Patrick’s took this challenge head on. AM was invited to catch them hard at work creating the unique composition that features vintage […]
