Opening this Friday, Life Adjustment Center (teased) will juxtapose two distinctly disparate, yet immediately recognizable bodies of work. Continue after the jump.

Preview: “Bad Dads: A Tribute to Wes Anderson” @ Spoke Art

In honor of one America’s most talented and beloved filmmakers, Spoke Art’s upcoming concept show (held at LoPo Gallery) will pay homage to the witty genius that is Wes Anderson. Opening this Saturday, October 30th, Bad Dads: A Tribute to Wes Anderson will serve as the backdrop for a diverse group of artists – including Ana Bagayan (seen above), Dave MacDowell, Greg Gossel, Caia Koopman, Munk One, Dabs Mayla and many more – given carte blanche with their interpretations of the characters and stories that […]

Teaser: Andy Warhol – “Camouflage” @ Honor Fraser

In a first of it’s kind for the West Coast, Honor Fraser will be bringing together one of the most comprehensive collections of Andy Warhol’s Camouflage series ever. This rare event will not only serve to exhibit the Camouflage paintings (unique canvas silkscreens) themselves, which weren’t publicly displayed until six years after the artist’s death, but will also bring together for the first time the well known silkscreen prints from the series along with never before seen test proofs. The canvas series, in a large […]

Opening: Chris Berens – “Leeuwenhart” @ Roq La Rue

Last night, Roq La Rue played host to the much anticipated reveal of Chris Beren’s newest body of painstakingly crafted and enormously enthralling work, Leeuwenhart (previewed). Working off the theme of his recently born daughter, Emma Lionheart Berens, Seattle art-goers were privy to an all encompassing assault on the senses. With 32 pieces filling the walls of the gallery, the vast majority selling in advance of the opening, Chris has proven his mad scientist-like genius in the studio, imminently dedicated to sharing his visions and […]

Teaser: REDU HOMEROOM @ Reed Space (NY)

It appears REDU will be continuing the hot streak of standout art events in the name of educational reform with REDU HOMEROOM. Aiming to “rethink public education by putting creativity and innovation back in the classrooms”, the pervasive non-profit will be teaming up OHWOW and Staple Design, as well as an extensive cast of corporate supporters including Bing, The New York Times, CAA Foundation and many more, to bring Manhattan’s Lower East Side a unique two-week artistic and fundraising event with 100% of the proceeds […]

Opening & Closing: The Hole’s “RE:FORM School” Charity Exhibit

A couple weekends ago, The Hole in conjunction with non-profit organization Redu called upon a diverse collection of artists to help shine a much needed light on the increasingly strained American school systems by donating their talents to raise money for educational reform. Aptly dubbed RE:FORM School, the show brought together an eclectic array of contemporary and street artists, including Shepard Fairey, Faile, WK Interact, Mel Kadel, Ron English, Greg Lamarche, Gary Baseman, Chris Johanson, SWOON, Friends With You, Jim Houser, TrustoCorp, Ryan Bubnis and […]

Showing: Tauba Auerbach – “The W Axis” @ Standard (Oslo)

Few artists are capable of transforming the ordinary into the transcendent quite like Tauba Auerbach. From manipulating simple letters in clever and meaningful ways to replicating the intricate patterns produced by analog TV static, or perhaps most famously reordering every letter in the Bible alphabetically into a cloth bound book of gibberish, the American artist has the uncanny ability to squeeze every last drop of value out of seemingly dull subjects, tweaking perspective ever so gently so as to bend perception in the most dramatic […]

Teaser: “Street/Studio 2.0” @ Irvine Contemporary

For street artists, location has always been as important, if not more so, than the artwork itself. The site informs the conception – and perception – of the work down to it’s very core. On November 6th, Irvine Contemporary will explore this unique relationship with a group of artists that have been bringing the street into the studio for years. With such street art legends as José Parlá, Shepard Fairey, SWOON, James Marshall (Dalek), David Ellis, Romon Yang (Rostarr) and Gaia, Street/Studio 2.0 will spotlight […]

Teaser: Greg “Craola” Simkins – “Story Teller” @ Gallery 1988

With a successful NYC show over the summer (covered), Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) will keep the ball rolling by returning to his home turf in LA for a solo at Gallery 1988. On November 5th, Story Teller will highlight a new body of street inspired, pop surrealist work with the gallery responsible for bringing Craola out of the obscurity of graffiti circles and into the warm embraces of the contemporary art world. The fairy tale narrative within Greg’s work, however unlike the stories remembered from […]

Teaser: Invader – “Roma 2010 & Other Curiosities” @ Wunderkammern (Italy)

French street art phenom Invader has trained his sights on his next target, quietly mobilizing a army of alien assassins poised to attack neighboring Italy with his first solo in over a year. Opening October 23rd at Wunderkammern, Roma 2010 & Other Curiosities will in part continue the artist’s self-ascribed “RubikCubism”, an inventive re-purposing of the definitive hand-held puzzle toy that first manifested itself during his tribute to classic album cover art in NYC (covered) and saw further rearrangements with last years UK solo (covered). […]
