One of our personal favorites from this year’s Art Central was the solo showcase by Mike Lee at the Over The Influence’s booth. Simultaneously showing the NY-based artist’s Hong Kong debut along with a solo show by Tadashi Kawamata in their local space, the gallery presented a sold out exhibition at the fair that included some of the largest pieces Lee has ever produced. On the 27th of April, the Art Central fair in Hong Kong opened its door to the public, showcasing the works selected by 100 leading international galleries, 75% of which hail from the Asia Pacific. Print Them All recently teamed up with legendary artist Kenny Scharf (interviewed) for a fresh new limited edition release. As a part of his recent Sloppy Styles series, Sloppy Melt is a new take on his signature cartoon-inspired imagery. The California-born artist was a contemporary of such names as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol or Keith Haring, working alongside them in the 80s in NYC. His graffiti-based work has been called pop abstract surrealism, and is constructed of alien-like cartoonish characters that form everything from single portraits to complex multidisciplinary installations. After successful inaugural event in 2017 (covered), Nuart Aberdeen just announced that their second edition that will run from April 12th to April 15th. Onejessa recently completed a rooftop mural on top of the Hibernian House in Sydney’s CBD. The piece is a larger than life reproduction of a mixed media piece from her latest collection Violent Harmonies that will be exhibited starting the 14th of March at M2 gallery. Using diverse painting techniques, the Australian artist constructs opulent assemblages of collages which are sometimes immortalized inside transparent resin.
