After sharing photos from the SCOPE and VOLTA fairs we visited during Basel Week Switzerland, we now turn our attention to the main fair. After sharing some initial photos of artists painting murals for the Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape exhibition opening June 26th at the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA), we now have some more shots for you from over the weekend. Releases: Shok-1 – “The Consumer” Shirt

Those who follows Shok-1 and his distinctive work on the streets are no doubt familiar with his x-ray spray technique. One of the London-based artist’s most well received murals comes from last year when he merged his aesthetic with pop culture and painted a Pac-Man as it would look if it had bones. This image was later released successfully as a print and now will be silkscreened on limited edition shirts. This first collector’s run will cost £50.00 and come in an edition of 100. Head over here Thursday […]

Openings: Cyrcle. – “Nothing Exists” @ Station16 Gallery

After bringing you a look inside the Cyrcle. (featured) studio as they prepped for their Montreal solo, we now have some photos from the opening to share with you. Nothing Exists at Station16 Gallery (showing through July 4th) features the Los Angeles duo’s new works explore themes of themes of religion, science, and duality with their signature design aesthetic. Take a look at the photos below and make sure to get far enough at least to see what happens to the pieces when the lights turn off. […]

Studio Visits: Jeff Soto – “Nightgardens” @ KP Projects / MKG

As we mentioned when we shared photos of a new mural from Jeff Soto (interviewed) in Los Angeles last week, his show at KP Projects / MKG is fast approaching. Opening on June 27th, Nightgardens will be the Riverside-based artist’s first solo in LA since 2006. We had the opportunity to check out some of the paintings he has been working on in his studio recently, many of which deal with creatures of the night. The new works are lush and rich, rendered with a vivid color palette, and features personal […]

Showing: Scott Listfield – “Astronaut” @ Rotofugi

Currently at Rotofugi in Chicago, artist Scott Listfield has about 20 oil on canvas paintings on display collectively entitled Astronaut. As suggested by the title of the show, the works all center around a familiar protagonist seen in most of his works – the character in the spacesuit. Seen encountering everything from pop culture references, to surreal and out of place scenarios, to futuristic settings, to the abstract, his subject and the reaction from seeing these things can only be imagined by the viewer as he or […]

Basel Week Switzerland ’15: VOLTA

After bringing you a look at SCOPE Basel, we now turn our attention to the VOLTA. Moving back to the center of the city at the venue Markthalle, their 11th year at Basel Week Switzerland sees the art fair continuing to focus on mainly solo exhibitions from artists at their gallery booths like Mark Stone for The Hole Gallery (seen above). Check out more photos from the fair below… Photo credit: @gamma888 for Arrested Motion.

Previews: Bumblebeelovesyou – “#WhereWeBeelong” @ Thinkspace

Opening on Saturday night (June 20th) in the Thinkspace Gallery project room is #WhereWeBeelong, a new show from Bumblebeelovesyou. The works for the exhibitioni mirror the Los Angeles-based street artist’s outdoor imagery – whimsical scenes of children at play, of course oftentimes dressed in yellow and black or peppered with references to his namesake. Take a look at some more preview images below as well as a short video… Discuss Bumblebeelovesyou here.
