Teaser: Pedro Matos @ Shooting Gallery

It’s been a year since we last saw a solo (covered) from Lisbon based street artist Pedro Matos. It looks like he has used the time in between shows wisely getting ready for an exhibition at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco in September. He’ll be continuing his portraiture of society’s downtrodden and neglected, but it looks like he has some new tricks up his sleeve as well judging from the preview image above. Openings: Scott Radke – “Burlap” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday night in Culver City, Scott Radke (interviewed) creatures ran wild at the Thinkspace Gallery. Owls, a cobra, flowers, and other unidentified and strange characters from the Ohio-based sculptor took over the space with their unsettling realistic yet beautiful faces, many of which also featured incorporated burlap for texture. Perhaps KAWS had a sixth sense as to what was going to happen when he placed his Passing Through Companion at The Standard in New York recently. The street art and graffiti community was saddened as news has came today that the Brooklyn Museum has cancelled the scheduled next stop for the current Art in the Streets exhibition currently showing at the MOCA. Time flies! The annual Sea No Evil benefit auction ($10 donation required at the door) is fast approaching – in fact, it’s this Saturday, June 25th. Since her series of shows in Australia at the end of 2010, Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) has been hard at work getting ready for her next show. Fans in Los Angeles will be happy to know that on July 30th, the new body of work will be revealed at Merry Karnowsky alongside two other artists – Deedee Cheriel and Femke Hiemstra. According to our friend Amanda Erlanson, the long awaited HEROES & VILLAINS book has finally been released. In it, photographers Tatiana Wills and Roman Cho take snapshots of many of the artists we follow here on AM.
