On February 13th (private view on the 12th), the postponed show that we mentioned last year from Antony Micallef will open at Lazarides Rathbone. Now entitled Self, the exhibition will be the first from talented painter with the London showspace since 2012. Die Kunstagentin in Cologne, Germany will be opening a solo by Dave Kinsey on the 5th of February. Titled Ashes To Ashes, the exhibition continues the body of work which was recently presented at the Cushion of Memory show (covered) in Detroit and expresses “the personal impacts of his surroundings and his examination of the relationship between human and nature.” With his new paintings, the former designer artist is taking an abstract direction, while still preferring figurative works. Almost exactly four years since his last solo at the Alice Gallery in Brussels, Todd James aka Reas, is back with his second show titled Pump Pump. For those passing through SoHo in New York, a pretty sweet wall at the James Hotel from Paul Wackers may make it worth your while to stop for a look. Featuring the locally-based artist’s modern take on still life imagery, the wall on the hotel’s Sixth Avenue facade is the first new phase of their #jamespublicart initiative. In collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou in Paris is currently presenting the first exhaustive retrospective devoted to Jeff Koons in Europe until the 27th of April. LA Art Show ’15: Recap

Last week, AM attended the LA Art Show to see what the fair had to offer collectors in Los Angeles. Previews: Spazuk – “Récidive” @ Galerie C.O.A

On the 26th of January, Galerie C.O.A in Montral will be opening Récidive, a solo show by the “fire painter” Spazuk. The distinctive technique he uses is called fumage, which allows him to use the flame of a candle or torch as a “paintbrush” to create his paintings with trails of soot. He later manipulates these trails by using various needles, razors, and makeshift bird feather pens, which result in incredibly detailed black and white works on canvas, panel or paper.
