Studio Visits: Joe Sorren

It’s fun when your artistic heroes turn out to be as cool as you want them to be, and through all of the love we’ve given to Joe Sorren over the last couple of years, you know that AM was thrilled to visit the artist in his Flagstaff studio last year. Joe took us through his huge studio space where he has a painting area, office, library, drying room and a practice space for his beautiful upright bass he plays in his roots / bluegrass […]

Openings: Lisa Yuskavage @ Greengrassi Gallery

AM favorite Lisa Yuskavage is currently exhibiting at London’s Greengrassi Gallery. The New York based artist comes at us with another collection of dazzling works featuring her ever sultry figures of women in their natural state. What’s really cool is that she’s continuing to create smaller works to compliment the larger canvases which already run a pretty penny (hundreds of thousands), much like this gem we saw at David Zwirner from last year’s Art Basel Miami. Check out this breathtaking parade of paintings after the […]

AM stopped by StolenSpace this weekend to check out their latest exhibition, Kai & Sunny’s “Return to the Wild”. The show contains large scale one-off and small edition prints by the duo, with a cohesive colour palette and fantastic nature inspired subject matter and motifs used throughout. Alongside the wall pieces are four floor standing tee-pee lights with silkscreened covers stretched over bamboo frames. These pieces of functional art provide a welcoming glow to the entrance of the gallery, and were first seen in a […]

Openings: Antony Micallef & Conor Harrington @ Lazarides (Beverly Hills)

Two artists from across the pond who are not strangers to Los Angeles – Conor Harrington (interviewed), who had a show with Chloe Early at Kinsey/DesForges last year, and Antony Micallef (interviewed), who had a pop-up show with Lazarides almost 3 years ago – unveiled their newest body of work to a thrilled opening night crowd at Eurotrash at the Lazarides LA gallery. Of the four artists (also including Vhils & JR), who participated in the group exhibition, Micallef’s work stood out the most. Unlike […]

Filling the Hole Left by Jeffrey Deitch – The Hole

Ever since Jeffrey Deitch made the announcement that he was leaving New York City and the commercial art world behind to become Director of MOCA on the other side of the country, speculation and rumors have abounded concerning the legacy he’s leaving behind and the aftermath of his gallery, Deitch Projects. How was the void that was going to be created by his departure be replaced? Today, the answer was announced. According to an article by the Wall Street Journal, that hole is going to […]
