Shepard Fairey arrested in Boston

It seems that the Boston Police Department were not at all impressed by Shepard Fairey’s status as Presidential portraiture or his 20-year retrospective at Beantown’s Institute of Contemporary Art. According to The Boston Globe and Huffington Post, Fairey was arrested last night around 9:15pm as he tried to enter the ICA, where he was scheduled to DJ the museum’s sold-out Experiment Night dance-party (with tickets going upwards $500 on Craigslist). Police Officer James Kenneally stated the department had Jan. 24 warrants alleging the Los Angeles artist tagged […]

Openings: Chris Stain @ Carmichael Gallery

AM checked out Baltimore street artist Chris Stain’s solo exhibition, “Up On The Roof Countin’ Pigeons,” (previewed) at the Carmichael Gallery. Stain absolutely knocked one out of the park with his transformation of the front gallery space into a New York City rooftop scene, which featured an amazing gargantuan-sized mural on one of the gallery’s walls. This setup was the perfect backdrop for Stain’s work which features scenes taken from the life of everyday inner-city Americans and the day-to-day struggles they encounter. In the rear […]

Seen: Jeff Soto Talk & Book Signing

Jeff Soto gave an interesting talk along with a slideshow last night at the Riverside Art Museum to his strong fan base in the area.  He covered his graffiti roots, childhood, inspirations, and took the audience through a progression of his work.  It was very instructive to hear what was important (family, Riverside area, politics, etc) to Jeff in his painting, and to really understand the transitions and beginnings of his work.  Afterwards, he took time to sign books and chat with all his fans. […]

More images after the jump…

Openings: Worlds on Fire (Grammy Show)

Art and music collided last night with the invite-only opening of the “Worlds on Fire” show (previewed) held at the Pacific Electric Lofts’ building in downtown LA.  The week-long exhibit features portraits of 2009 Grammy nominees painted and interpreted by some of the top artists in the low brow and pop surrealist scene. AM was on hand to attend the opening of the Gen Art hosted event – curated by Kris Lewis, Will.i.am and Justin Giarla (Shooting Gallery). Make sure to check out the photos […]

Can’t wait until February 7th for Mark Ryden’s Snow Yak show to open up in Tokyo? Well, you’re in luck because AM put together a preview of some brand new images along with some that we teased you with a few weeks ago. For this body of work, it looks as though Ryden is focusing on a singular theme as opposed to having multiple focuses in each of his paintings – a more minimalistic approach with a more uniform palette. Interested in picking something up? Well prices start […]
