Update: Anthony Lister

We recently came across this picture of Anthony Lister working on an etching for an upcoming release from Paper Monster scheduled for this month.  No details yet as to the edition size, price, or even the image, but from the looks of it, the print will most likely be of the painting seen below that was shown by New Image Art at Art Basel week. We are also looking forward to his two-person show with Craola coming up next month at Fifty24SF, but more on […]

Teaser: Brandt Peters @ Gallery 1988 LA

Brandt Peters’ show “Cackle Factory” opens on February 3rd at Gallery 1988 LA. Thought we would drop a little teaser of what he has been working on for those interested. Looking at his paintings, we are always reminded of the stylings of Jessica Rabbit, perhaps because Brandt draws from his background as a illustrator, character, film, and animation designer.  His masked misfist, deviant animal characters, and unique color palette sets him apart, and we are looking forward to this new body of work.

Sad Trend – Stolen Art

Art heists are not new… The ones that get the most attention are the ones where millions of dollars worth of art is lost. Check out this article from Artinfo that highlights the top 5 art crimes of 2008. What does seem to be new though, is this disturbing trend of art being jacked from galleries that WE frequent and of less “expensive” art. Artists we are all familiar with such as Yumiko Kayukawa, Luke Chueh, Sylvia Ji, Margaret Kilgallen, Barry McGee, Clare Rojas, and […]

Banksy – Tourism in the Holy Land

An interesting article came out last week talking about how Banksy’s work from Santa’s Ghetto in Israel had become a tourist attraction. However, some of his work was lost in translation when seen from the eyes of the people living there. For example, one of his most iconic images “Flower Thrower” is revered because it resembles, according to the locals, the angel statue at a nearby church outside the village of Beit Sahour, in Shepherd’s Field. They insist that Banksy knew about the statue when […]
