James Jean – Sketchbooks

James Jean posted up another 150 photos or so into his already vast database of sketchbook images a couple days ago.  Apparently, he noticed there were some missing from 2004-2005, and only recently was he able to upload them.  Frankly, we don’t know anyone as organized and as thorough when it comes to recording their sketchbooks.  Some interesting stuff as he not only shows his drawings, but also texture studies.  His upcoming show “Kindling” at Jonathan Levine is probably the first big show of 2009 […]

The exhibit include many original iconic works of Andy Warhol, and the aim of the exhibit is to expose the renowned contemporary artist to their young visitors. This is truly a wonderful step to bridge the art gap between different generations and we hope to […]

None of his family members are a match and he desperately needs a bone marrow transplant to survive. Check all the details after the […]

Looking to capture the creative energy which fueled Barack Obama’s unprecedented grass roots campaign; this contest will have themed categories: Manifest Change, Manifest Unity, Manifest Opportunity. Robert Williams Lecture @ Oakland Museum of California

If you ever wanted to learn about how the “Low Brow” art movement started, this series of videos posted by sketchv might interest you.  Broken into 11 parts (Part 1 seen above), these videos recorded the lecture of Robert Williams at the Oakland Museum of California a couple months ago that was part of the L.A. Paint show (currently showing still).  Although not the best quality, Williams can be heard covering a wide variety of topics as well as talk about over 60 of his […]

Teaser: Gary Baseman @ Urbanix (Israel)

Internationally known artist, Gary Baseman, will be opening a show in Israel at Urbanix on January 8th entitled “The Sacrificing of Cake.” Judging from the show description, this body of work will be intriguing as it is rooted in some personal experiences.  Also, we will be interested to see the appearance of the “dragons” as we don’t believe he has used that imagery before. “He presents in his works the image of the dragon “Uga” (meaning “cake” in Hebrew), slaughtered again and again by feminine […]

Continuing with our coverage of Basel Week Miami, AM wanted to highlight another tantalizing find from the Scope/Art Asia fair: Wang Zhi Jie Wang Zhi Jie is a contemporary artist from China that wields a skillful brush and conjures up some very sexy and appealing imagery. He specializes in drawing “innocent girls” conducting what are perceived to be provocative actions. He uses big dreamy & shiny eyes to symbolize the innocence of these young girls and focuses on them “mimicking” adult poses/situations. More info and pics […]
