Openings: Sam Flores – “Ego, Addiction, and Other Bedtime Stories” @ Subliminal Projects

“Ego, Addiction, and Other Bedtime Stories,” the latest body of work by Sam Flores (interviewed) opened to a packed crowd Saturday night at Subliminal Projects. The show, laid out in Flores’ storybook illustration world, revolved around the premise of the basics of everyday human struggle, controlling our inner demons and the balance between good and bad. It was great to see that Flores included something for everyone in the show, ranging from his amazing large-scale paintings, to intimate portraits of his characters, as well as […]

Preview: “the GREAT outDOORS” @ Artbreak Gallery

The most striking, inherent fallacy of street art displayed in a gallery setting is undoubtably the loss of contextual reference for both the viewer and the artist. Just as the adrenaline rush or illegality of street art can never truly be conveyed in a screenprint, the dirt, grime and overall pith and timber of the street can never truly be conveyed on a canvas or for that matter, the internet. It is this intrinsic issue that curators Luna Park and Billikid have attempted to tackle […]

Stencil sensations Logan Hicks and Broken Crow (Mike Fitzsimmons & John Grider) took some time do an interview with AM for their upcoming “drive-by” show “Broken Horse.” The much anticipated urban stencil show will be held in an awesome venue that was once the Hamilton Savings & Loan in Brooklyn, opening tomorrow, May 1st, from 7-11pm. Preview/Interviews: Sam Flores – “Ego, Addiction, and Other Bedtime Stories” @ Subliminal Projects

We had an inkling this would be a strong show from Sam Flores when AM first hooked up last month for a creative process article for his upcoming show.  As we saw more images leaked from his show entitled “Ego, Addiction, and Other Bedtime Stories,” opening this Saturday, May 2nd at Subliminal Projects, we became more and more excited about this body of work. Flores really pushed himself creating works for this exhibition.  As he puts it: “this new show is a transformation.  I wanted […]

Openings: Banksy @ Andipa Gallery

Stop and get it fresh – Banksy at Andipa Gallery! This past weekend, Andipa held an exhibition of some elite secondary market canvases by the Bristol Bomber. From what we see, the show was filled with not only grade A images, but they were also in great shape/condition, which is uncommon considering many of his pieces were stenciled on “urban” materials. This is a rare chance for you to see such a diverse collection of Banksy’s work in one place.  So, if you’re in London, you should definitely make it a […]

Video: São Paulo Street Art and Pixacao Graffiti

Here at AM, we simply can’t get enough of Brazilian street and urban art. The unique style, flair, vibrancy and most importantly its underlying grittiness create the perfect mind and retina stimulating combination. Last month’s São Paulo show at Scion Installation LA (covered) only reinforced this. Like us, we’re sure our readers have also been yearning for more. We bring you two videos to temporarily satisfy your cravings. The first video is a peek inside the Brazilian urban art scene, exploring how Choque Cultural got […]

Releases: Aiko – Original Spray Paint & Gallon Paint Cans

Last week when Aiko opened her dynamic show “Love Monster” (covered) at Joshua Liner Gallery, we noted a great installation created out of hand painted, stenciled and collaged spray paint and gallon paint cans. Since the doors opened, there have been numerous inquiries and requests, but these little gems were unfortunately not available for sale. Well, fans are now in luck because Aiko and the gallery have decided to make these hand created originals available. The price on these gems is a steal: the spray paint cans are $120 and […]
