POW WOW ’11 / Interview: Jeff Hamada (Booooooom)

Mr. Booooooom (that’s seven o’s), Jeff Hamada, will be one of the artists joining the POW WOW crew as they get together for their live painting today. Although you may be more familiar with his website Booooooom, known for introducing new artists as well as their interactive projects with their readers (ie: the Little Drifters – project), Jeff is also an artist himself. POW WOW ’11 / Interview: 123Klan

Some other participants in this year’s POW WOW will be Scien and Klor, repping the 123Klan from Montreal. Initially formed as a graffiti crew 20 years ago, the klan has branched out to branding, creation of logos, character design, illustration and typefaces, all the while staying true to their first love – graffiti. As we suspected, Banksy was not done with his initial “Crayon Shooter” stencil in West LA. Looks like another piece has been discovered showing he’s a fan of Charlie Brown on the side of an abandoned fire-damaged building. We wonder how many he has planned as we lead up to the Oscars. As our readers must know by now, Banksy’s film “Exit Through The Gift Shop” has been nominated for an Oscar. Although it doesn’t appear that he will be allowed to personally accept the award if he wins, it looks like he made the trip out to Los Angeles just the same. Continuing his exploration of projection art (see his show and participation in the Lightsound Project in Copenhagen), Armsrock (interviewed) recently visited Vienna and illuminated selected walls and monuments with some of his drawings. The Danish artist has been in the Austrian capital immersed in the quartier21 artist-in-residence program and appears to be keeping busy before heading back home for various other projects and shows scheduled for the rest of the year.
