Showing: Ai Weiwei – “F Grass” Installation @ Vancouver Biennale

China’s most notorious artist and social activist, Ai Weiwei, recently introduced a new public piece created exclusively for the Vancouver Biennale. F Grass is a site specific piece currently exhibited in Harbour Green Park, Vancouver, that is composed of 1328 tufts of iron grass. Totaling 182 square meters, this installation shows letter F, constructed of oversized grass tufts. Remed currently has his second solo show, entitled Essence, showing at the David Bloch Gallery in Marrakech. Recap: Taku Obata – “Bust a Move” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Jonathan LeVine Gallery recently closed a show featuring the dynamic b-boy and b-girl wood sculptures created by Taku Obata. Entitled Bust a Move, the debut US solo exhibition from the Japanese artist draws from his own experiences as a breakdancer with his subjects frozen in poses and stances that everyone from that subculture recognizes. Upcoming: Anish Kapoor @ Versailles

Following in the footsteps of Takashi Murakami and Jeff Koons, another worthy giant in the contemporary art world will be putting his works on display in the unique historic setting – Anish Kapoor. Visitors to Palace of Versailles between June to October next year will be greeted by the British sculptor’s famous shiny geometric objects among other works in the rooms and grounds of the 17th century chateau. Recap: Ron English @ Secret Fresh (Manila)

Over the weekend, Secret Fresh in Manila opened a new exhibition featuring the work of Ron English (featured). Although fans of the New York-based artist enjoyed the live painting, art work, and other sculptural pieces on display, the stars of the show were the larger than life Temper Tot toys. Recap: Alexandros Vasmoulakis – “My eyes are seeing you” @ Amalias 36

Recently in Athens, Alexandros Vasmoulakis held a brief popup showing at Amalias 36 entitled My eyes are seeing you. The sexually charged and promiscuous narrative from the Greek artist has an interesting setup with a sculptural installation that features male heads obsessively staring at the figures in the paintings and depending on your perspective, the attendees of the show themselves. Releases: Luke Chueh – “Jack” Figure

After the first appearance of Luke Chueh’s (featured) sculptural version of his classic Jacked painting from 2005 at one of his shows in 2013 (covered), fans have been wondering when some limited edition iterations would be released. Well, the time is now with preorders open for Jack, a 22 x 13″ cast resin figure in beautiful gloss white with silver chrome antlers. Openings: Ron English – “Evolutionary Alternatives” @ Tribeca Grand Hotel

Prior to traveling down to Basel Week Miami, Ron English (featured) unveiled a unique installation at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. Entitled Evolutionary Alternatives, this showcase curated by Natalie Kates Projects focused on Ron’s camouflage animal motif and brought it to life in the main concourse of the hotel with life sized sculptures of the deers painted to blend in with the foliage in the lobby.
