It appears two things motivate Bay Area residents with a vengeance; Halloween and Wes Anderson. The effects of both were on full display during Spoke Art’s Bad Dads: A Tribute to Wed Anderson (previewed) group exhibition. With wall to wall people and a line wrapped around the block, Neck Face proved for the second straight Halloween just why his nightmarish art and the pagan holiday are such a fitting marriage. Openings: JR – “The Wrinkles of the City” in Shanghai

2010 TED Prize winner JR, who beautified the city of Shanghai with his inspirational project “The Wrinkles of the City” (covered), also recently opened his gallery show in China hosted by Magda Danysz Gallery. Located in the historical part of the city, The Bund, the space was perfect setting for the street activist’s new photos taken in China with some pasted onto what looked like found materials. With Ratio 3 playing host, Bay Area residents came out en masse to catch a glimpse of phenom photographer Ryan McGinley’s newest body of work last night. Famously known as the youngest artist ever to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Life Adjustment Center (previewed) showcases in perfect detail the reasons for such an honor. With violent imagery and crude commentary, all wrapped up in a huge ball of satire, Neck Face will be triggering our collective fears with his newest solo exhibition, Into Darkness (teased). Opening on Halloween Sunday, the street artist has brought together an impressive collection of gouche and watercolor drawings, acrylic and enamel paintings and mixed media sculptures to OHWOW’s Hollywood pop-up gallery. To continue our focus on some of the most enjoyable elements of the Frieze Art Fair, we were drawn in to a room within David Zwirner’s booth dedicated to an installation of works by Marcel Dzama. A full sized hooded mannequin, complete with rifle, pirouetted in the centre of the room and drew voyeurs into a world of wonder from Dzama.
