One month after opening his third NYC show (covered), Haroshi had a pre-opening special exhibition at HHH gallery on March 21st in Tokyo. The gallery that was co-founded by Haroshi and Usugrow held host to a group of locals who are engaged in various creative activities, such as book-making, event planning, music-making and filmmaking. According to the photos and info we received from Paris, the opening of Julien Malland aka Seth Globepainter’s solo show Walking on a Dream at Itinerrance Gallery on March 20th was a huge success. Known in his homeland both as an artist but also as a TV host of the popular show Les Nouveaux Explorateurs (The New Explorers), the Paris-based artist has a huge following that wanted to witness his artwork in person especially since he doesn’t do gallery shows that often. Pixel Pancho just launched his first solo exhibition in London at StolenSpace entitled Memory of Life. The Italian artist has transformed the gallery space with installations featuring surreal robotic characters using pieces of furniture & musical boxes while also created some sculptures with moving mechanisms, including Michelone, an edition of 10 handmade and articulated robots. Sam Wolfe Connelly’s second solo show at Roq La Rue opened on March 5th. And Here I Lay features several oil paintings that can be described as haunting with a touch of remorse. Feelings of quiet and loneliness invade film-like locations that could easily be used as crime scene evidence. The exhibition also has a few graphite drawings that add to the narrative. Nawer recently opened his successful Tokyo debut at Hidari Zingaro Gallery. Co-curated by Takashi Murakami and Takumi “Kasenyan” Kaseno of the GEISAI executive committee, Colors in Shapeland is a part of KaiKai Kiki’s GEISAI∞Infinity project. For this show, the Polish artist created a whole new body of work consisting of his abstract geo-based pieces. While quite different than other artists on the KaiKai Kiki’s roster, Nawer’s futuristic abstract works obviously resonated with the local collectors as the show completely sold out. Openings: Sarah Joncas & Camilla d’Errico – “Beauty in the Breakdown” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last weekend, Sarah Joncas (seen above) and Camilla d’Errico (seen below) opened up a joint show together at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles that included good representations of what they were known for. Beauty in the Breakdown featured the feminine portraiture of Joncas in film-noir settings contrasted against the manga-inspired surreal work of d’Errico. Having painted over a hundred murals in Tehran, Iranian artist Mehdi Ghadyanloo recently made his debut London show. Entitled Perception with Howard Griffin Gallery, the exhibition featured a series of paintings, miniature sculptures and a cube installation playing with perception and depth.
