Openings: STASH – “Sprayed In Full” @ The Seventh Letter

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to attend the opening of a show from New York graffiti legend STASH (featured). Entitled Sprayed In Full and held at The Seventh Letter gallery in Los Angeles, the exhibition featured a series of works on canvas and paper featuring the same abstract splatter, inspired by elements of graffiti that have made him a wanted man for collaborations with streetwear and fashion companies (as evidenced by a new shoe design from Reebok – also one of the sponsors of the show). Discuss Stash […]

Openings: Dennis Morris – “Bob Marley: Giant” @ Known Gallery

Over the weekend, the Known Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for an exhibition from Dennis Morris, a UK-based photographer especially known for his work in the music industry. This particular showing focuses on his iconic shots of Bob Marley, a seminal period of time in his young career when he toured with the Jamaican singer-songwriter. The night also featured the release of a collaboration print with Shepard Fairey, with some of the edition set aside (which is being released online as we speak). Photo credit: […]

Armory Week ’14: Armory Art Fair (Part 1)

Last month, tens of thousands flocked to New York City to participate in Armory Week. Manhattan was filled with satellite fairs and exhibitions highlighting the vibrant arts culture in one of the main hubs of the US. At the center of it all is the flagship Armory Art Show. The long standing fair features some of the top galleries in the world displaying an amazing range of artistry. From younger emerging artists to household names, we doubt you’ll not find something exciting at this mainstay […]

Openings: Fuco Ueda – “Kioku No Hana (Flower Of Memory)” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Over the weekend, Los Angeles saw the opening of a solo show from Fuco Ueda at the Thinkspace Gallery entitled Kioku No Hana or Flower Of Memory. The Japanese artist made a trip over herself for a rare in-person appearance to the delight of her fans. The new body of work features the vibrant palette, familiar female characters, and surreal imagery that Ueda is known for as well as more renderings of the chrysanthemum flowers that often appear in her paintings. Take a look at more photos below but also stop by if you […]

Openings: KAWS – “Final Days” @ CAC Malaga

KAWS aka Brian Donnelly just opened his big European museum exhibition, curated by Fernando Francés, at CAC Malaga. Titled Final Days, this is his first museum solo outside USA, and similar to his recent US shows and events at the end of last year (New York, KC, PAFA), this showing will coordinate with his solo that opened in Madrid back in Feb (covered). The new body of work will continue the Brooklyn-based artist’s series of large scale sculptures by presenting five versions of his familiar figures carved in wood which will […]

Interviews: Moby – “Innocents” @ Project Gallery, Los Angeles

Currently showing in Hollywood at Project Gallery is a show of photographic works by NY transplant and LA evangelist Moby. Ever since moving to the Sunshine State, the man most famous for his musical abilities has been concentrating more on his visual artwork (as well as his architectural appreciation and criticism). He first had a show in 2011 at Kopeikin Gallery and while that series of work included live crowd shots from his concerts, Innocents is a entirely different type of exhibition, featuring staged shoots and […]

Openings: Geoff McFetridge – “Meditallucination” @ V1 Gallery

On Friday night, Geoff McFetridge presented a new body of work at the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, his second showing with the gallery. The versatile Los Angeles-based artist brought with him a set of paintings featuring his signature minimalistic portraiture as well as a series of smaller pieces. Rounding out the exhibition were some of the ceramic works we first fell in love with back in 2011. Via Highsnobiety & It’s Nice That. Discuss Geoff McFetridge here.

Cyrcle. – “Overthrone! Pooring Reign” @ StolenSpace

Several weeks ago in London, the Cyrcle. crew opened up a new solo show at StolenSpace entitled Overthrone! Pooring Reign. Working with design elements mirrored in their recent street works (like for POW! WOW! Hawaii), the Los Angeles-based duo created pieces that dealt with ideas of the interplay of powers and how one’s mind can be used to conquer one’s fears. Take a look at at more photos below… Discuss Cyrcle. here.

Openings: Augustine Kofie & Moneyless – “Assioma” @ Avantgarden Gallery

Augustine Kofie (featured) and Teo Pirisi aka Moneyless met for the first time in San Francisco back in 2010, and ever since they’ve been both friends and admirers of each other’s work. Fans of geometric, futuristic and abstract works, their pieces have been exhibited many times alongside each other.  Now four years since they met, they finally got to work together thanks to Avantgarden Gallery. On the 20th of March, they opened Assioma, a two man exhibition in Milan, Italy, and introduced their first ever collaborative […]

Openings: Max Kauffman – “Aether Ceremony” @ Black Book Gallery

Oakland based artist Max Kauffman made the trek back to his former home town of Denver, Colorado for his solo show Aether Ceremony at Black Book Gallery. True to the fictional element for which the show is named, the flowing lines and semi-abstracted imagery make the show feel light, elusive and Aether like. Kauffman uses color and geometry to tie the work together, giving the exhibition a cohesive and even narrative feel. Fans will recognize his continued use of decay and fatality as themes to deliver […]
