Openings: Risk & Nathan Ota – “Innocence Lost” @ Corey Helford Gallery

A couple weekends ago, old friends RISK (interviewed) and Nathan Ota opened up a show together at the Corey Helford Gallery. Displaying their collaborative efforts (like the paintings seen in 2011 in LA & SF), the two artists put together a cohesive new body of work that features RISK’s deconstructive color washes & lettering along with Ota’s surreal characters. Openings: Greg Eason – “Four Fish of the Apocalypse” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, the Breeze Block Gallery welcomed in several artists to display their works at the Portland showspace. One of these was the London-based Greg Eason, who made the trip over personally to present his detailed graphite drawings. The series of works were collectively entitled Four Fish of the Apocalypse, and use carefully selected images to illustrate his version of some of the Book of Revelation (Chapter 6 of the King James Bible). Openings: Joao Ruas – “VERSO” @ Thinkspace

Showing through this weekend at the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City is VERSO, a new solo show from Joao Ruas. The Brazilian artist presented a diverse set of works including his largest work to date (seen above), a wall mural & installation, etchings, polaroids, backlit pieces, and more utilizing mediums such as acrylic, watercolor, pen, pencil, and gouache. POW! WOW! ’14 / Openings: 1xRun x Pangeaseed show

One of the main events of this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii was the release of a POW! WOW! 2104 Featured Artists Series of limited edition prints by the 1xRun, as well as the opening of their popup show along with the Pangeaseed organization. POW! WOW! ’14 / Openings: RVCA x TWSL – “#RVCATWFSL”

Last night in conjunction with POWWOW ’14, RVCA & The Seventh Letter teamed up to put on an exhibition featuring some of the graffiti & street artists they are affiliated with. Working with similar sized canvases, they each translated their imagery and aesthetic on the streets onto panel for the popup show (691 Auahi Street). Last night, the Honolulu Museum Of Art School hosted the official launch of this year’s edition of POW! WOW! Hawaii with an opening of a big  group show curated by the Thinkspace Gallery. Openings: Ben Eine – “Heartfelt” @ Judith Charles Gallery

On Wednesday, renowned graffiti artist Ben Eine unveiled a new series of works at Judith Charles Gallery. Entitled Heartfelt, the street typography wizard conveyed his thoughts & emotion through his bold color compositions. The exhibition showcased both his large format canvases and his print-making techniques. Using subtle changes in color and texture, EINE changes perception with his Jedi mind trick word plays. Openings: D*Face @ Stephen Webster (Beverly Hills)

Tonight, February 5th (5-8pm), Stephen Webster in Beverly Hills will be hosting a new show from  D*Face (interviewed) along with the US release of his new monograph – One Man and His Dog. Along with this signing session, a new collaboration print between the UK-based artist and his friend Shepard Fairey, who wrote an essay for the book, will be released entitled FACE to *FACE (Edition of 200, 18″ x 24″, $80).
